Does anyone know if it is common to receive towel animals at GF? On our last trips to the Poly and ASMo we tipped housekeeping every morning but never once received a towel animal (or any cute little displays of stuffed animals etc). I made such a big deal to my DH about this based upon my own past experiences with receiving them, but he's never been on a Disney trip yet where we have gotten one! This time he's telling me that we are NOT tipping housekeeping since it doesn't seem to make a difference (we normally don't tip at any other hotels besides at Disney). I'm willing to try again but don't want him to say "I told you so" if we, once again, don't get any.

The only place we've ever received a towel "animal" or Towelagami as my son says...was at WL. We did not get them at any other resort (ASMu, CBR, AKL, BWI, Poly, GF, or YC).

You shouldn't be tipping houskeeping for towel animals, but rather for good houskeeping!

I really wish Disney would just stop all of their mouskeepers from ever making these animal towels. It has gotton out of hand. pirate:

I agree you should not tip because you expect towel animals but rather because the mousekeeper worked hard and cleaned your room. The reality is that not every mousekeeper knows how to make the towel animals, so they should not be punished with no tip because you did not get one. We've stayed at some of the All Stars, POFQ, GF, Poly and WL and got one towel animal at WL....it was really cute, we enjoyed it and appreciated it but never expected it....HTH.....

Are you kidding me...my dd's look forward to coming back to our room at night to see what mousekeeping has left...and even if they don't we still tip...I agree that this is not a reason to tip you should tip even if you do not get one, but to stop... :scared1:

I think if you expect something in your room YOU should call disney florist and have it delivered...JMHO

ETA: I have stayed at all the All Stars and POP and CBR...I got them at all the value resorts and never got them at CBR...go figure???

I guess it depends on the mousekeeper. We stayed at the WL with friends a few weeks ago and reeived towel animals every day. It can't depend on tipping because we had mousekeeping envelopes made for each day and our friends tipped at the end of their stay.

when we first started staying on site we only tipped at the end of our stay and we received towel animals at the allstar sports. When we were more "learned" we tipped each day at WL, we only received them on one visit. It was a pleasent surprise, I wouldn't expect them all the time.

We have stayed at deluxe resorts many times over the past 12 years and only one time have we received towel animals. (We always tip - didn't even really know about the animals, just tipped for good housekeeping)

The towel animals were made for us at the Grand Floridian, though, over Thanksgiving. We arrived back to our room in the main building late on Thanksgiving night to a pilgrim and a turkey. My kids all got a kick out of them. They were a funny surprise.

Just bring some rubber bands and little stickers and make them yourself secretly to surprise your husband. :earsgirl: He will never know - especially f he has never seen one before. That way, maybe you can convince him to stay at deluxes only from now on. Even better - the GF only!!

Have a great stay. The GF is magic. I LOVE that place. Can't wait to return.

We love GF. We tipped well every day. We've never received a towel animal. Our mousekeeper last summer was great though she would rearrange the kids stuffed animals really cute!

We stayed in a 2 bdrm suite at the GF in December, and one night ONE of the 2 bdrms got a small animal made out of a washcloth at turndown time. Why it was one of the rooms in the suite and not both, I have no idea. And it was only the one time.

We tipped at the end of the stay, not daily. I agree it is nice to come back to the hotel and see a surprise. For me, the surprise are beds made and clean bathrooms that I didn't have to do myself! I am easy to please!

In many, many nights spent at the GF, I only received one towel animal. Aside from that, we had both excellent mousekeeping and turn down service. I have never once found a reason to complain about the cleanliness of our room. Special requests were handled without a problem and if alternate cleaning times were necessary, that was fine too. I tip housekeeping at whatever hotel I stay in, so it's normal for me to budget it with our Disney trips. I always felt that I was tipping someone in appreciation for the job that they did, namely making beds and replenishing towels, so I didn't have to.

We too stayed many nights at the GF and never received a towel animal. I've never had one at the BWI either. I always assumed it was because we don't have kids (yet). Never really thought much about them - we tip housekeeping for good service, period. The housekeeper at the BWI in concierge is a lovely woman. We'd never not tip her because we didn't get a towel animal. They're just a bonus.
