Towel Animal Question

Hi! We are a bit confused by towel animals. On our first trip this September we stayed at SSR. Two times a towel animal was left (a duck and a butterfly). They were cute! We left them at the end of the stay as we were afraid if we took them we might be charged or in trouble. If towel animals are left in your room are you allowed to take them as souveniers? We go back September 2008 and if we get one, and if we are allowed, I would love to bring one home to show our family. I figured there was no better place to get an answer than on the awesome Disboards! Thank you! Kimberly & Family

We were told to enjoy them but they weren't ours to keep. You will find many answers on this so I should you ask when you are at WDW. If they say it is ok then go for it.

Honestly, I have done both. A brought a rabbit made from a washcloth home a couple of years ago, but the other times we have just taken a picture and left them. I am also confused about what is expected. I don't want to seem ungrateful by just leaving them there, but again, I don't want to steal either.

when we stayed two years ago for eight days we got just one,on the first day we were there. we did not takeit, we just used it. I had not heard of anyone taking them until this post now I'm wondering if we can take them.

I read on the DIS before our trip that a MouseKeeper had told guests that they were their gift to us and to take them. I also read that they use older washclothes that would otherwise be retired...great way to recycle!

We received three on our trip and are now proudly sitting on the shelf in our bathroom along with a years supply of soap and shampoo our MouseKeeper left us ! Here's a pic of the first two:

The two birds are actually attached as one animal.

Absolutely! I think people are all told different things. I guess on next trip, if we get one, I will ask the front CM's (or Mousekeeping if I see them) if we are or are not allowed!

Oooh, sounds interesting! I have a "Disney Corner" at this point... maybe someday I will graduate to a room! Anything Disney just seems happy to me!

We just got back from WDW in Aug. and were told that we were not to take the towel animals. Maybe the rule varies depending on where you're staying and how the mngmt is feeling that day?

It's always best to ask 1st...wouldn't want to be accused of stealing!

Great little book, easy to follow. Kids love to learn how to make these. IMO, the last thing my DD needs is another fabric critter collecting dust and taking up space.

I had also heard they were made from old retired washclothes. We received two during our August trip and took them home. I have them displayed in our bathroom. I have read on other posts that it is ok to take them home. I hope I did not break a rule!!

When we were there at Easter 2006 we had 2 that we were told were Disneys gift to us so they are now proudly displayed along with the Mickey Mouse soaps in a basket

I am beginning to think it depends on who you ask and where you stay! If they are made from recycled washcloths (as people have been told) I think that is a really cool way to recycle!

I also thought it was ok to take them home. We received a bunny and a dog on our last trip and we took them home. I have read on other posts that the mousekeepers have told people to take them. They are glad when people enjoy what they have made.

I got 2 small washcoth animals at CBR in August and I took them. I figured that's why they left them there. Now if when we go next week we get some kind of huge towel animal, I will probably leave it.

We just got home from POR and we where told we could keep them. We recieved a couple a day. We took some home and then we gave some to the family a couple doors away from us.
