Tow vehicle MPG question

I know that this is a little off topic but all the threads about gas prices and gas mileage have me thinking. The cost of gas is one of the big reasons that we had to skip going to Disney this year. Last year we averaged about 6 MPG towing our 5th wheel (11,000 lbs). We want (need) to replace our truck with something newer and more fuel efficient so we can take some longer trips next summer. We currently have a 1992 F350 crew cab with a 460 gas engine. My DH thinks diesel will be better and we do need to stick with a crew cab (baby #3 is on the way). I was wondering what kind of fuel mileage you guys get and if you have any recommendations. Thanks.

Before buying our Class A we had a Chevy Duramax Diesel 1 ton Dually. Driving back and forth to work my husband averaged 17MPG. With the heavy truck camper in the back we got approx. 14 MPG.

Hope this helps.

We have a 2004 Ford F350 diesel dually and we pull a Fifth wheel that weights approximately 14,000 lbs. DH usually drives around 70 mph and we get 11 mpg. Not the greatest but much better then when we had a motorhome and only got 8 mpg and now we have so much more space. If prices continue to stay high, we might cancel one of our trips this winter but it's going to be difficult to give them up completely. Sure would be nice if FW had some discounts codes that would help offset the high price of gas.

That's what we're hoping for. We have a trip planned for Christmas and another trip planned for the last week of March, 1st week of April. We're hoping the rates for FW will be discounted for the spring trip.

We have a 2004 Chevy w/Duramax diesel, crew cab. Our camper, fully loaded with all my stuff  probably weighs about 9000 lbs. Towing, we get about 12-14 MPG, and non-towing averages about 17 MPG. We can get more if we really watch our speed. Everything I have read says diesel is better mileage. Friends of ours has almost the same truck/camper but gas engine and MPG is much worse.

HTH!

2001 Dodge quad cab diesel towing a 12,000 lb 5th wheel I get 12-13 mpg towing at 60 mph, 19 mpg driving around town, 21-23 highway at 60 mph, 19-20 mph highway at 65 mph, 18-19 at 70 mph.

Can you be a little more specific? :rotfl2:
