We live in Wisconsin. We have a 2007 Jayco 12 foot pop-up that we love! Wisconsin is a beautiful state and the camping is awsome! Anyhow- I am in the planning stage of our family trip. I am looking into three options:

1. Tow camper using Honda Ridgeline, 2 kids, bikes, ect, one stop overnight on the way down and one overnight stop back.

2. Rent 5th wheel from Tina, rent small car

3. Rent cabin at FW.

Option one takes the most time and energy. We would have to take off extra time to drive the 24 hour trip. Option 2 sounds great as a 5th wheel would be quite the step up from a pop-up. Option 3 would be nice too. I am also looking at cost. When it all comes down to it we just want to stay at FW. (we are actually comming down in Dec. with my parents and renting a house- they have no wanting to stay at FW- hey , free trip who am I to argue!)

Thank you and have a Disney day!:wizard:

Hello fellow Wisconsinite!

Is this for a trip other than in December? If so, I would definately drive and bring your pop up. We have weighed all the options as well and we would still be better off driving our van with the pop up. You have everything you need including your bikes. There are pluses to all options, but I think this still works out the best. I always figure if your going to drive that far you might as well make it worth your while and stay 2 weeks :thumbsup2.

AS everyone knows .......

I will take what's behind door number 2 ! :cool1:

we know, we know. LOL

She must get some kind of advertisement discount.:rotfl2:

I would agree with taking your own camper. It sounds like you are driving down either way, so why not take your own stuff.

I vote to fly to Orlando, use magical express to campground, rent my trailer. Get a golf cart at the bike barn and have the garden grocer deliver your groceries. No rental car! :lmao:

I would pick #1, you paid for the pop-up why not use it?

I would just do what ever makes you happy. But if it was me I tow my own trailer. Have a great trip.:thumbsup2

We are currently doing the same debate. We live in Minnesota and have driven down the last 3 years. I would do it again in a heartbeat just to have your own portable house, bikes, and stuff makes it worth it. I love camping at the fort. I would say drive down, bring the popup, and have fun.

Our issue is that we tow a rather large 5th wheel and fuel alone is going to run is 1800 to 2000. We figure we can drive the mini van down and have enough of the 2K left over to pay for the resort. Noit sure whats in the cards for us yet.

Good luck and have fun.

Mark

I kind of like Tina's option! I did not even think of all that. Are the prices from garden gro pretty good or overpriced?

Ok- another question................. How much is a golf cart rental? Maybe bike rental instead? How much to rent bikes?

Golf Cart around $50.00 a day. Bike $23.00 a day per bike. Wow Disney actually found a way to make the golf cart price seem reasonable with those bike prices.:scared1:

I knew this way before I opened the thread.:lmao:

Bad thing about the bikes is they want you to rent the dang things and bring em back at night daily. I'd just go by some cheapies before I'd rent them.

Who is Tina?

WHO IS TINA? WHAT...you mean you've never seen one of the billboards I've posted along I95 telling you who TINA is?

Seriously..I'm probably her biggest fan..she is a member of the camping forum who rents out her RV..and will place it on site for you in FW. You make your reservation the same way you would if you were bringing your own RV. She provides all your linens and towels (something you won't get from the national chain type rentals). Plus all your sewer/water/electric/and cable hook ups are done. I like to say.."All of the perks..and none of the work" of camping or towing. We will be using Tina's 5th wheel at the end of this month.
Here ya go:

YES...you all heard correctly...I'm FINALLY GOING! counting the days now! :thumbsup2 I only wish I could have been there for one of the Grand gatherings, it would have been nice to meet some of you..especially given all the grief you've all given me about Tina's RV (Donnie!). :rotfl:

We are coming from Wisconsin in October. We were all set to tow our camper, and we love the thought of Fort Wilderness. When the discounts came out, we switched to a cabin. Overall, it is $900 more than camping, but we figure we will save around $700 in gas by switching to minivan from Truck + camper. So, it is not much more to stay in a cabin

We are still driving so we can bring all our own stuff. PLUS, we still get to enjoy everything at the Fort! (Plus - air conditioning if we need it)

Good luck with your decision

We are from WI too. . For us to drive we have to stay for atleast 2 weeks otherwise it's not worth it. How long are you going to stay?? If less than a week then I would rent from Tina.
Our next stay is next Dec over christmas and new years:eek: way too far off!!!

UGH!!! I wish I had known about Tina earlier.... my dates are full.
oh well, we are still going and still going to have a wonderful time!

We just use our tt. with the kids and the dogs and even the high gas prices, using our tt is the way to go, even from indy where we are at!:thumbsup2
