Prior to becoming pregnant, I had started a fitness/weightloss program and had to quit because I was having the baby. Well...I went into the doctor's office today for my 6 week postnatal checkup and nearly fainted when I stepped on the scale and saw my weight! I am up to my second-highest weight ever (the highest being while I was pregnant with DS) at 194!:earseek: On a medium build frame, for someone who barely stands 5 ft 5 on a good day, that's extremely scary. Add in that I've been battling my weight my entire life and I know I've got quite a fight ahead of me to get down to my goal weight of 140. That's 54lbs I have to lose and I know it won't be easy. I'm going grocery shopping tomorrow and getting the Slimfast shakes, since I seemed to be doing well on those prior to being pregnant. I am also starting my workout program again on Monday (a Debbie Austin yoga video and Richard Simmons' Sweatin To the Oldies I). I know it won't be easy to take the weight off but I know I have to do it. My weight being so high hurts my already affected gimpy knee and ankle. I know if I get the weight off, they won't hurt as much and I'll be able to do more, play with DS more and do more of the things I'd like to be able to do.

How is that beautiful little boy of yours? Your pictures were adorable. How is the mom thing going? It is so special isn't it? How is your mom doing? I hope leaving you alone or at least being nice.

Welcome to the Wish. You will find alot of support and encouragement here. Ok here I am being nosey, but I don't remember if you said you were nursing or not? If so, don't forget to not go under your kcal. Keep your diet full of things that are green and push your fluids. That helps with good breastmilk. Plus an additional benefit of nursing is that you burn more calories.;) Be kind to yourself, you are only 6 weeks postpartum. It took alot of months to go on so it won't come off overnight. Enjoy that baby of yours. Take care and welcome again.:D

:wave2: Hi TOV,
Welcome to the Wish board! I hope you are doing well with your dieting and exercising efforts. I admire your determination to get back into shape so soon after having a baby ::yes:: ! You will get lots of support and encouragement from the wonderful people on this board, so don't be a stranger ;) . Have a great day :sunny: !

Hi TOV! :wave2:

How are things going on your healthy living journey?? You've got a new baby at home so you may be overwhelmed with mommy-duties right now. Things will get easier and more routine as the next few weeks go by and once you have a routine, it will be easier to incorporate your healthy eating and exercise goals. Be gentle with yourself and enjoy your new baby. There's plenty of time to get back in shape.

Hope you have a great Tuesday! :sunny:

Welcome to journaling and congratulations on the birth of your son!:Pinkbounc

You will definitely find a lot of support and encouragement here.::yes::

Have a wonderful week!

Sorry I hadn't responded. Things got a little  around here.

Anyway...yesterday we had a huge Memorial Day cookout and today I started the SBD.

Breakfast:
2 eggs (whole, scrambled) with mushrooms sauteed in ICBINB spray topped with a sprinkle of shredded lowfat mozzarella.
15 whole dry roasted peanuts
1 portion very icky orange flavored sugar free jello

How do you keep from starving on this diet? I'm still hungry! I miss bread. I have to remind myself not to go make toast because I know bread is totally OFF LIMITS the first two weeks of the diet.

I honestly don't know how this is going to work when I actually have to work tomorrow or the rest of the week. That's been my problem since I went back to work. When I was on maternity leave, I could eat whenever I felt hungry. But now that I'm back at work, that's a little more difficult. I'm lucky if I get ONE 20 min break in an entire 6-8 hr shift and most of the time that comes towards the end of my shift instead of near the middle. So by the time I actually get something to eat, I am so hungry I overeat.:( I don't know what to do. It's certainely going to make this more challenging that's for sure.

The SBD definitely takes some preplanning. I followed it at first but not really now. I just follow no sugar/no white flour. Maybe you should add some canadian bacon to your breakfast and that will help fill you up. Did you drink enough water to also help fill you up? I know it is a struggle those first 3 to 4 days but after that I promise it does get easier. I found that if I had my meals preplanned/prepared it was MUCH easier to follow. Maybe it is time for a string cheese snack and glass of water. Good luck. It will work out how it should for you. :D

Well lunch went a little better.

Lunch: my attempt at making 3 really pathetic lettuce wraps
Lettuce wraps: lettuce, thin deli sliced ham, tomatoes, cucumbers and a smallish dollop (like 1/8th tsp) of lite mayo. ALso had a small handful of dry roasted peanuts and a sugar free icebomb thingie with two glasses of water.

And I'm STARVING! :(

Can't wait till dinner--salad with chicken breasts and water. Maybe a sugarfree Fudgesicle for dessert.

Hi TOV,
Sorry you're having a rough time with SBD. I tried it also and had to give it up after a few days because I felt awful. I hear that if you can tough it out for a week or so it gets better but the bottom line is it isn't for everyone. My dr. told me that many women can't handle this particular diet. I'm not trying to discourage you. I think it's great that you are trying the plan. I'm just saying that there are lots of other options out there if you decide this one isn't for you. Good luck  .

Snacks?
I'm trying not to snack, to stick to three meals (if I can get them) a day because I know that when I have to work (Monday was my day off), I don't get 3 meals a day. I'm lucky if I get 2. When I work, I eat breakfast and then usually don't get the opportunity to eat again until about 8-9 hrs later when I finally get home. We don't get breaks at work (even though I think we're supposed to according to the law..that's another rant entirely). That's why I'm afraid this will fail. By the time I get home usually, I'm so hungry I overeat. :( It's a vicious cycle and I'm hoping that South Beach will break me of it. Or maybe it'll just break me.

Tues
Breakfast: 2 slices provolone cheese and 20 peanuts
1 glass water

Lunch: None

Dinner: Salad with half a skinless, boneless roast chicken breast and fudgesicle for dessert

Good Morning TOV and welcome to Wish! I'll have to warn you there are a lot of princess: around here! LOL!

Our resident expert on the SBD is ZerasPride - she has been doing that program for awhile now and has great success. If you PM her or post in her journal and questions I know she'll get back to you with some great answers.

Have a great day and remember to drink your water!

You really should pm Lisa but I thought SBD strongly recommends eating every few hours to keep your metabolism going. That would be 3 meals with 2 snacks/1 dessert. I'm sorry you are having a hard time. Anyone would if they didn't eat for 9 hours while at work.:( Can you maybe put some string cheese in a cooler/refrig and grab it sometime during your day? I thought by law you were supposed to get a lunch break? I know when we have a busy shift we sometimes don't get breaks either:mad: but then we mark it down so at least we get paid for not taking that break. I hope at least you do too. Good luck. Hopefully it is getting a little easier. That first week is the toughest.

I thought by law you were supposed to get a lunch break?
Ha! Try making MY boss (aka the Agent of Saddam) obey the laws of puny Americans. He feels he can do whatever the heck he wants because nobody (even me!) is willing to stand up to him. I'm afraid of saying anything because I'm afraid he'll fire me. Even when I was pregnant with DS and had a friggin DOCTOR"S NOTE, he wouldn't let me take breaks when I needed them and I passed out twice during busy shifts. I'm all but convinced that's the reason DS's birthweight was kind of on the low end of the scale. If I'd been allowed to eat more, maybe he would've gained more weight. :( Oh well...can't change the past.

SBD says you're supposed to eat when you're hungry and when I'm at work that's impossible, which is why I only lasted a grand total of 2 days on the SBD. I was hungry all the time and when I finally did eat, I'd eat everything in sight, good or bad, until I was stuffed. :(

I'm thinking of trying SlimFast since I've had modest success with that before and see where it gets me.

Sorry you're having so much trouble finding the right plan for you, TOV! Your work situation doesn't seem to be helping, either! I guess a different job is out of the question??

If you're stuck with this situation, then I'm thinking that the Carbohydrate Addicts plan might be the way to go. You're not allowed to snack. You eat 2 really low-carb meals a day, and then you get a reward meal where you eat a balanced meal of protein, fat & carbs - as much as you want for an hour.

I do agree that eating nothing for 8-9 hours during your shift is going to make things really difficult. Any way you can eat a string cheese or some nuts while you work, or on a bathroom break?

Hope you have a good Friday! Give your new DS a smile for me!! :sunny: I love that new baby smell! :D

That's kind of hard to do, since the boss is always there, seeming to watch everything. I've been looking for a new job since I found out I was pregnant with DS because my boss makes everything so difficult, but so far no luck.

TOV

Your boss sounds like an idiot. Can't you make a call to the labor board, on a payphone and report him without giving your information out? Not getting a break is against the law.

I'm sorry that SB didn't work out for you. Those first couple of days/first week are kindof miserable. You are right that you are supposed to eat when you are hungry but he states "you will have three balanced meals a day, and you'll be urged to have snacks in the midmorning and midafternoon, whether you need to or not. You'll have dessert after dinner".

I think you need to eat more. I understand you don't get breaks and it is gross to eat in the bathroom, but what would happen if you said I am taking a 10 minute break? Would you get fired? I guess whatever plan you follow if you don't eat enough your metabolism will slow and then it will be even harder to lose the weight. I hope you find a plan that works for you. Maybe you should wait until you can get a new job and a better environment to be in. I don't know about you but too many stresses make it impossible to lose weight for me. Good luck and I'll be sending good thoughts your way.:wizard:

what would happen if you said I am taking a 10 minute break? Would you get fired?

Probably. And I hate to say it, but if I don't find a plan that works well for me over the summer...most likely when I go for my annual visit in Sept, I am going to ask my doc about Meridia. I hate to think I have to resort to taking diet pills to get the weight off but it looks like that may be my solution. :(

TOV

I'm sorry you are having a tough time. Take baby steps and you will find what works well for you. Good luck.:D
