Touringplans a sham?

Disneyland is PACKED today.. Never seen any theme park like this before besides maybe holidays.. What's up?
What's up? Disney introduced a major expansion that has completely and irreversibly altered attendance patterns at DLR. Not even Disney is certain how the remainder of the year/beginning of next year will shape up so it will be impossible for a third party to have accurate information.

It's time to say it, this, I fear, is the new normal!

TP's Lines smart phone app is pretty darn good but they have a long way to go on their crowd predictions. That is a well known point of discussion around here.

We were in the park on Sunday-Tuesday night. I thought Sunday and Monday were quite crowded. We are very uncomfortable with crowds, so it was hard for us. Tuesday was sooo much better!! We laughed and said "This is how we like our DL!"

I subscribe to their website and have been watching the predicted crowd calendar for a couple months now. We are going the week after Thanksgiving and they have been changing the predicted crowd level. I think they are changing it based off the recent surge in guests. I think one thing we have to realize is that on those days that were 9's and 10's in the past, they will still be 9's and 10 since 10 is as high as they go. However, I think you have to say a level 2 a year ago was 20,000 people (just using a number for the scenerio) and a level 2 now is 30,000. A level 10 a year ago was 100,000 and a level 10 now is 150,000. The whole scale has been effected. A 2 may still be a 2 using the new scale but the new 2 has an additional 10,000 guests added to it.

So Touring Plans predicted DLR on Sunday to be a 9 out of 10 and said it was a 9 out of 9. They predicted Monday to be an 8 and said it was actually a 7.

Yes, once people go home after the holiday weekend there's a lot more breathing room. We were SO sad to be leaving just before it was going to get better. But we planned this trip based on Gay Days hotel rates and the timing, because we had hoped for my BIL and his partner to go with us. Next time, we're arriving AFTER the long holiday weekend is DONE!

Hi,
This is my very first post ever, so be easy on me if I mess up! I go to Disneyland 3-4 x a year and the weekends and holdiays are always crowded. Add to that the new Cars land and even the best of touring guides can't keep up. The best time to go is just before Halloween time, ( or in the winter after the holidays) you get a deserted park where you just walk on rides!:wave2:pixiedust:

There are many school districts in Arizona that have "fall break" for the first two weeks of October. I don't know if there are any in California that have fall break but that may have contributed to the crowds.

We were there Oct. 1 and 2 and we spoke to a CM who seemed very surprised that it was so busy on a Monday and Tuesday. I think that Disney has been caught a little off guard by these fall crowds and don't have the staffing levels or park hours in place that help keep the crowds more manageable in summer or holiday times. For example, Monday was 10am-8pm for both parks and Tuesday was 8am-6pm at Disneyland with the halloween party after. You could have the same number of people or more on a weekend and spread out over a 16 hour day. When the park is only open ten hours it will seem packed from open to close.
Next time we're just going to go in summer. If there's going to be crowds all year we might as well enjoy the longer park hours!

We were there at the same time and Monday seemed really busy. I heard one of the ladies at security/bag check say the same thing to another visitor.

This is one reason we chose this weekend. We were also trying to space our trips out, and we are going in December. So October it was! It was still fun, even if it was crowded.

Wed. the 10th Disneyland seemed packed to you? I was there and it didn't seem it to me. It was not deserted but it was less busy than Thurs, Fri or Sat.

I think Phoenix schools being out is the reason, personally.

It didn't seem super busy to us, either. Friday was the most crowded day for us, and it still wasn't too bad until the 4-7 time periodm
