With 2 wks to go my other half has just started to think about the holiday and has asked the following:

What does everyone use to carry all their clobber around the parks? Are rucksacks allowed on the rides? If not, what do you do with water bottles etc?

Being a bloke I havent a clue and bearing in mind we have 2 kids with us (teenagers) what would you all recommend?

Mostly you're OK with rucksacks. On the few rides where they are not there are usually lockers that you can use for a couple of hours for free, then they charge ( check on the time limits as some are tight) .

Depending on HOW MUCH stuff you want to carry, most of the parks have "day lockers" that you can store stuff all day (change of clothes, spare film etc) These are about $3 I think . I haven't rented one for a while but I think it used to be $5 for the day and you got $2 back when you returned the key.

Hi

Just back from our 3rd visit (and seriously depressed at the thought of work in the morning) and this was the first time we did without a backpack.

We all (DW and 2 DDs) carried bumbags and bought a couple of water-bottle straps for our water. Much better than having to cart a backpack in 95' heat (it's always me that got that privilige on the past 2 trips). You can pick the straps up in the parks (think they were $3.25 each) at the small kiosks.

If you still need a backpack then most rides accommodate them other than the bigger rides (Hulk, Duelling Dragons) where you can use a locker. Alternatively, each park has lockers at the entrance and you can rent one for about $6-$7 per day.

I'd recommend jettisoning the backpacks in favour of bumbags.

bum-bags are ideal - and seem to bring a smile to our transatlantic cousins faces when we call them bumbags. Mind you - much less obscene than what they call them!

I like the idea of the water bottles on straps - at least the kids can carry their own and I wont get lumbered!:teeth:

personally I think you dont need to carry water bottles, there are enough water fountains around the park!.

I'd have to differ We've only been in August and definitelty needed our bottles. Dh and I had one each which we shared with the kids and refilled regularly from the fountains, but I don't think any of us would have had enough water just drinking from the fountains.

P.s. we got a bottle from Milletts in a fabric case that threaded onto the strap of a bum bag - in fact we threaded quite a lot of stuff onto the bum bag strap, it looked like Batman's utility belt at the end of a day.

Love the image.

I'd still go for a small rucksack. We like to carry plenty of drink and some food into the parks. Sometimes the kids need a little energy boost so we take sugary carbonated drinks. Don't even think of buying drinks in the parks. A rucksack is also good for carrying towels or spare clothes if you like waterrides.

We couldn't bear to carry rucksacks or the like around the parks. Seeing some people there it seems like they are going on an expedition! We just have bumbags for money, tickets, car keys etc. and we eat and drink in the parks as and when we feel the need for it. It's not as if the drinks are expensive and at least they are ice cold when you get them. Also we enjoy relaxing in air-conditioned restaurants for an hour or so to recharge the batteries.
