My husband and I are going in Dec and we want to tour some of the resorts on our first day since we don't plan on going into the parks that day.

We will be flying in (we are looking at plane tickets now) and wondering if he had to go straight to our hotel first or could we get off at another resort as people are being dropped off to start seeing resorts before finally being checked in?

Technically, DME is supposed to drop you off at the resort you are checking in at. When you arrive at DME at the airport, your MB will be scanned and you will be directed to a line for the bus of the resort you are staying at. Usually that bus will make more than one resort stop and I suppose you could exit the bus at one of those other resorts, but you won't know which ones you'll be stopping at until you get on the bus.

Touring the resorts at Christmas time is so lovely. Disney's Magical Express is meant for you to go to your resort. Technically if your bus is making multiple stops there is nothing stopping you from getting off at another resort. For example if you are staying at an Epcot resort your ME bus may stop at CBR, BWV, YC and BC. So if you were staying at any of those resorts no one will stop you from getting off at a different resort.

I wouldn't though - I would want to go to my 'home' resort and leave my carry on bags before starting my tour. I would not want to bring them around with me while I toured. You don't have to check in, you can just go to bell services, check your baggage and start touring the other resorts. What a great way to start your vacation! Are you going to grab lunch or snacks as you tour? Did you have ideas of which resorts you wanted to see that first day? Also, you'll want to think about how you are getting to your home resort when you are done. MK resorts you can take the resort monorail or a resort launch, at the Epcot resorts you'll need to walk.

Even if DME would drop you off at another resort, I would go to my resort first. You might be surprised and your room will be ready, in which case you can drop off you stuff and get refreshed before starting out on your tour. I would then pick the first bus to a park that arrives then transfer from there to your next resort. If you are staying at an Epcot resort, you can just walk over to the one you aren't staying at and start your tour with that resort. If you are staying at a monorail resort, just hop on the resort monorail and tour those then hop on the boat to WL. If you are staying at a moderate or value resort, I would bus to MK and do the monorail tour.

Thanks, I completely forgot about the carry on luggage. It was a question my husband was asking as we are looking at plane tickets.

We too are visiting in Dec. What we've done is plan some moments in specific resorts to see the Christmas decorations. We have lunch planned for the Whispering Canyon Café so we can view the WL Tree.........love the WL. We've also planned Afternoon tea the afternoon of our MVMCP day so we can see the GF Gingerbread house :D. We always try to visit resorts on each visit.........part of the joy of WDW.
