Heya - I have a challenge for all you well-informed and experienced DISboarders!

We will be visiting next year from Australia. We've never been to Disneyland before so are absolute beginners. Having said that, we've read as much as we can (Unofficial Guides, online blogs, recommended itineraries, etc) on how to make the most of our time in the parks. We will have 5 days in the parks, however our travel dates (early July 2019) are likely to be just after the opening of Galaxy's Edge. We were not planning for this (it's the only travel window we have) and are expecting the parks to be at (or very close to) capacity each day of our stay. So we know that planning will be critical!

Needless to say, seeing everything when the parks near/are at capacity will be next to impossible. But that's OK. Our 3 kids will only be aged 9, 7 and 5 when we are there so not everything appeals to us anyway. Below I've listed our "must-do's" and our "would-like-to-do's":

"MUST-DO'S"
- Splash Mountain
- Radiator Springs Racers
- Incredicoaster
- Pixar Pal-A-Round
- Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
- Dumbo
- Mad Tea Party

"WOULD LIKE TO DO'S"
- Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters
- Alice in Wonderland
- Peter Pan's Flight
- Storybook Land Canal Boats
- Jungle Cruise
- It's a Small World
- Grizzly River Run
- Soarin Around the World
- Little Mermaid
- Monster's Inc

We also want to do the Minnie & Friends breakfast at the Plaza Inn, and visit the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. We were thinking mid morning for each (say around 10am) but can be flexible with the time of both.

Of the 5 days we will be there, we will be able to do 2 x definite rope-drop starts, most likely on our first 2 days which look to be a Tuesday and Wednesday. Of the other 3 days, 2 will be late morning starts (due to other commitments the nights before) and the other will be 4 July (which we honestly have no idea what to expect - you guys might be able to help?). We will be staying off-site so will only have 1 Magic Morning available to us.

We are trying to put together a touring plan and were hoping to draw on all of your experience to help out. Completely understand that Galaxy's Edge is an unknown at the moment and everything may need to go out the window depending on how the parks deal with the crowds.

Any ideas, tips or plans will be greatly appreciated. For first-timers who usually travel with a solid game plan, 5 days at Disneyland at it's peak is a pretty intimidating prospect!

Even with big crowds, with 5 days you can easily do everything, a lot of it twice! My best advice would be get MaxPass, bring your patience, and try not to overplan so that you can adjust on the fly based on the crowd patterns. Since no one knows what will happen when SWGE opens, I honestly think plans will be somewhat useless. DL is NOT WDW, you can show up to the park and have a great day with zero planning, even when it is busy!

My suggestion would be to work through each land, one at a time, to minimize walking, with the possibility of huge crowds. This will save you time. I would start in Tomorrowland one day and start in Adventureland the next and work your way around the park. CA should be pretty easy, as there are less rides and bigger walkways. You can do that whole park in one day.

Also, I don’t see Matterhorn on your list, I would say it is a must-do! WDW doesn’t have this ride, it is a Disneyland original. Also, our Space Mountain is way better, I wouldn’t skip it.

Oh, and I would use that MM to get on Peter Pan. It does not have a FP, and looking at your list, that would be the best use of your time. The do the rest of Fantasyland during the MM, Alice, Dumbo, Teacups, you can knock that all out quickly!

5 days are great! We will do 5 days this year as well (before we only did 3 day trips)
My advice would be to start very slowly on the first day. Of course, arrive as early as you can to enter DL but then relax and take it all in! Enjoy your first walk on Main Street and take pictures and maybe take a Main Street vehicle back and than maybe ride the train around the park to get a little bit of an overview...this is at least what we always did on the first day to settle in... this habbit really helped to set the ride mood for the Disney trip, feel comfortable and also kind of settled me down (I was always very exited when I was a little kid to visit the parks). I always found it really nice to go slow at first and then slowly go to „full speed“ for the rest... but you should always try to enjoy the moment because there are so my little things so see and experience so don’t rush from one attraction to the other just to finish your list!(those little things set Disneyland apart from other amusement parks after all...)
But I am sure no matter what you will have an awesome trip!
