Touring DVC Resorts on Own

I am still doing my homework in hopes of buying into DVC. On my next trip to WDW (hopefully next January) I would like to visit several of the DVC resorts so that I will have a better idea as to which may be the best home resort. Do they restrict access to parts of the resorts to guests? Will I have a problem just wandering around on my own? Do you think they would show me a room if I ask? Has anyone done this?

(I may take the official DVC tour but I would also like to see some of the older resorts.)

Thanks in advance.

I think there are still sample rooms for viewing on the Boardwalk a for BWV.

Other resorts may show you a room, if one is available. You'd need to inquire at the front desk of each resort.

They do restrict access but they are not at all pushy and if you tell them all you want to do is view the model room and be shown around a little they will accomodate you.

I was the same way before we purchased. I refused to be sold something that costs so much. I will do my homework, ask questions, and then sell it to myself. To their credit they did not hound me in the least. They are a little more annoying after you buy with the constant mailings and several phone calls to sell more. I put my foot down on the calls and the mailings end up in the trash.

So far as I know, the only two DVC locations that restrict access are the pool complex at the Beach Club and the whole Bay Lake Tower building. You can wander around all other public areas at will. I'm sure there is some way to tour rooms and the controlled-access areas, though that might involve DVC sales.

I think that you are wise to get a first-hand look at the resorts. Every one that we have seen is beautiful in its own way and the atmosphere is not easily captured on film or in words. If you have enough time, it would also be worthwhile to try walking, boating, or monorailing to the parks from those resorts that have transportation options.

Good luck with your tours!

Allears.net has great pictures of the resorts and rooms too. We were just at BWV and they do have a villa available to view. It's right on the boardwalk.

If you tour a BWV, it will give you a good idea of what the BCV are like... very similar.

On our last trip in Oct. we toured the Grand Villas at AKL both styles from the resort(can't remember the names) but the ones from the DVC new building and the converted from the AKL. We simply went to the front desk and ask. We were scouting out our rooms/resort for our family vacation this coming Oct.We chose BLT Grand Villas. They were very nice and accomadating to us. They had a cast member take us to both and then walked us around the resort to the pools. The one restriction placed on us was we were not to film the cast member. We filmed so we could show the kids and let them help decide which resort to stay at.....smjj
