Hi All!! I fractured my ankle last month...all is healing well. I am headed to DL in mid May. Next week, if all goes well with the Dr., I can start walking with my walking boot (no hard cast, no crutches)...so I should be ok with walking by the time I get to DL...however, just in case I need it, can I use the GAC even if I only have a walking boot on? Or am I pushing it? I think I should be well enough that I won't have to rent a ECV while at DL. What are my options, if any? Thanks in adavnce for your comments & suggestions.

I think you might want to rent the EVC. Last summer my mom and brother-in-law were both in walking boots and had been in them for at least a month before we went to DL. (BIL for surgery on a torn achilles and mom for a broken foot) Even with them being pretty far into their healing processes, the walking would have been too much for them. Neither of them could have done the trip without the EVC. That was just our experience.

Th GAC was replaced last year with DAS, and is no longer issued for solely mobility related issues. I suggest renting a wheelchair, ECV or knee scooter. The boot is heavy, it's hard to match shoes to the same height, and over the course of a day the weight and the subtle tottering from uneven show height will wear on you.

I broke all of the toes on one foot two days before going to Disneyland. I was in a boot. I highly recommend getting a wheelchair. The chair helped with the pain, of course, and more importantly it made me feel safer. I was terrified of someone stepping on my toes or bumping me the wrong way. I felt like I had a buffer from the crowds.

We went in December and guest services will not issue a pass for mobility issues that can be resolved with a wheelchair.

I agree about an ECV, even if you're feeling fine. First is the fear of being stepped on. People pay no attention. Second, standing is hard. Most of the lines accommodate EVC up to the ride itself (which is why many no longer have handicapped entrance). When I had foot surgery I was ok with walking, but renting an EVC was the best idea in the world. Plus we had it delivered to the hotel so we didn't have to rent it at the park (or worry about the walk back). Totally worth it.

Thanks for the comments...I think I am leaning towards a ECV rental...I might do DL on my own the 1st day, Sat, since I will be there after 4pm...then I'll have the ECV from Sun to Weds...I called DECKERT'S and got a rate of $135 for 4 days...that is totally do-able...I'll post what I actually end up doing and a review after my trip...THANKS!!!

My daughter has done DIsneyland numerous times in a boot. (She has had spiral fractures in her foot and torn ligaments.) She prefers her boot to an ECV. She is in a brace most trips anyway.

She's in the center....

Enjoy your trip!
Bring a garbage back to put over your boot if you plan on going on Splash or GRR. I believe Malcon10t gave me this tip last year and it worked great!
