I have a friend who is struggling with a tough decision. Her little girl was abused by someone in the family they thought could be trusted. Her daughter was too young too understand at the time what happened. But now she is older and asks a lot of questions, like why the rest of the family does not speak to this person. My friend doesn't know if she should let sleeping dogs lie and try to protect her from the truth. Or if she should be honest with her and tell her what happened so she can accept it and move on. My friends therapist suggested telling her because until then she is just going to keep wondering and making herself more anxious.
I suggested my friend tell her because she is a strong girl and I know she can handle the truth especially with the support of her family and knowing is better than her driving herself crazy wondering. What would you do?
