I am still so angry at
DVC for literally screwing up our 4th of July plans. We own at BLT and specifically booked to allow us to view the fireworks from TOTW on the 4th. We did not even find out about the restriction except via various Facebook groups and that occurred inside of the 30 days restriction for changing a DVC reservation. (and the event sold out in 2 days as I am sure many who were originally "restricted" found out that they could book and thumb their nose at the BLT owners.) Disney has truly gone the way of other corporations that used to be noted for "Customer Service" such as airlines. They just don't care about their best customers! In 2016, we went to MK for July 4th and it was fun as we planned and had realistic expectations of "hot & crowded". In light of that, in 2017, we booked our room for BLT at 11 mos to use TOTW. At that time, the "rule" was that one could bring guests. In 2018, we booked our room at 11 mos again, and apparently the "rule" changed, and we were restricted to only those guests staying on our reservation. Despite calling and being told that more guests would be allowed, our guests not staying on our reservation were embarrassingly turned away at the elevator. For 2019, of course, we booked our room at 11 mos when the "rules" clearly stated July 3 & 4 were restricted for TOTW to those Members staying on DVC points at BLT. We invited the guests who had been turned away in 2018 to join us. So to find out on FB, not from DVC/Disney, that we would be restricted unless we wanted to pay the $120 pp fee, was a shock! I contacted Member Services and was told that the lounge was restricted but the fireworks viewing would be allowed. Since I never trust that info is correct, esp after the incident in 2018, I tried to reconfirm that on the Disney Parks Blog and was also told that yes we would be able to view the fireworks. Then later in the day, I had a note from DPB saying oops, we made a mistake and BLT guests could only view on 7/3. Now if I had known that at the 11-month booking, it would have been annoying, but acceptable. Why do we book under a certain "rule" that can be arbitrarily changed without notification? We've been DVC Members since the very first year of DVC, owning 7 contracts at 4 home resorts, and have only over the past couple of years seen this sort of treatment. It is very disappointing that Disney just does not care about anything but the dollars. We often visit TOTW and we usually go for the whole evening, w/ guests, spending a good amount on food & drink there. The lounge does fill up as it is fairly small and I have often seen SRO w/ a very long line for the bar. I just have a very bad taste left after this experience and will encourage potential DVC buyers to be even more cautious. We were considering New Years eve but after this experience, we canceled those thoughts. At least DVC changed the website after all of this to say the lounge is closed on 12/31 but even that is outside of the 11-month booking and there will be a lot of Members coming for NY eve only to learn that their plans were screwed as well. Sorry for the rant...I am drafting a letter to be sent to the powers that be (although only the underlings actually will see it). TY for listening and for the support I saw about the "inside 30 day" changes.
