I was totally disgusted at the mall today. I am thrilled to be in my size 10's(sometimes 9's) but I heard someone say something that disturbed me today. A lady probably in her mid 20's exclaimed in the changing rooms "Oh my gosh, I'm a fatty. I can't even fit in a size 5 anymore. I have to try a size 7". I, without thinking, shouted "Oh, SHUTUP!". I was a little irritable today for other reasons but I hate it when skinny people complain about being fat. I should have kept that comment to myself but does anyone else get aggravated about this.popcorn::

I use to be a size 5 now I am a 14. What happened to me was said by a friend.
She has health issues and looks anorexic. She told me that she and her family members (also thin) were discussing jean sizes. Their take on it is if you wear over a size 7 you are a fat ***. Her words, not mine.
Yeah....I haven't called her for a very long time. I think people need to really listen to what is coming out of their mouths!

That reminds me of the Nutrisystem commercial. "I used to be a size 10... Now I'm a size 2!!" WHAT EVER. First of all, Please understand that it is a numbers game. Many of today's "sizes" are VANITY sizes. They aren't even true sizes. What may be a 4 in one size may be a 2 in another or a 6 in someone else's line.
Designers play with our heads. And women have bought into the numbers game. If we're over a certain number, we're better than the others. Why? because we're thinner.

What we need to learn is to accept ourselves; Warts, fat and all, and lose weight for the right reasons.. to be healthier, not to be a size 4 or a 2 or even a 14.

/end rant.

I'm sorry, but I have to respond to this.

I'm about 5 foot 2 inches tall, weigh 115---and this is the biggest I've been in a long time. I am having trouble fitting into my size 4's, and have decided to go on a "diet" to get back into my 2's. I might be one of those people that you don't like, but to me---I know I need to loose weight to get back into the shape I was before and get healthy again. It might drive someone crazy that I'm not bigger and I want to loose weight, but those extra 10 pounds on me, might mean the same to me as the extra 50 pounds would to someone else.
Everyone has their own issues with their health, whether they are overweight/obese/or need to loose a few pounds to get into their favorite clothes again.

Well hey good for you! I don't mean that sarcastically either. Believe me...I use to be your size. I don't want to be a size 2 I just want to be healthy again. I weigh 167 right now and want to get to 130. I never had weight issues until my thyroid started acting up and I could not get off the couch.
Now it is a struggle to lose weight. We are not putting down people that are a size 2, believe me.

I know what you mean -
I'm only 4'11" and 5 to 10 pounds on me makes a HUGE difference. I wish I was taller to spread the weight around a little. :headache:

You should have felt sorry for her - that her self worth is so fragile that not fitting into a size 5 can make her so self-deprecating. I feel sad when I see skinny people complaining about being fat. It's sad that some people will never be happy. It's one thing to want to tone up or lose 5 lbs. even if you're thin - but no matter WHAT my weight I never regarded myself as a "fatty" or other names like that - I've always felt I am a cute, attractive curvy girl - whether 20 lbs. up or 20 lbs. down.

I do, but mainly because the few people I know who say things like that seem to do it just for the chorus of "Oh, you aren't fat, you're so thin/pretty" that inevitably results. I have one friend who is especially prone to this, especially when her personal life isn't going so well and she's in self-pity mode. She'll get to complaining about being up to a size 5 or not being able to get that cute top from the girls' department, just to get the reassurances of her friends/family that she is attractive, and she does it after every breakup and blow-off! On one hand, I'm glad I'm not so insecure that going up a size would send me straight to negative labels for myself or that I felt I needed validation from the people around me, but on the other hand, it does really suck to be struggling to get back into my size 15s and hear friends complaining about their 5s.
