Totally Bummed

You can also check 'the timeshare store', they only charge $12 a point. The only last minute specials I usually see from Dave seems to be only at SSR or OKW. Plus when going to a DVC studio you only get 1 bed and an uncomfortable pull-out.

We have stayed at both AKL and POR while AKL was a amazing visual resort I have to say we prefer POR. We had a safari view which was nice but we were glad we had the free upgrade from water view it wasn't really worth the extra money with all the great viewing spots around the resort. We also found the hallways very noisy we heard every child running down the hall seemed to echo. That being said it was a pretty resort I love just visiting now. POR was really nice. We loved the pool lots of little tucked away seating areas close to the main food area for snacking and nice poolbar for adults :) the boat to DTD was a huge plus we loved looking at the other resorts and catching a glimpse of the tree houses. I will say stop thinking about what was and look forward to a great trip with your family enjoy and take to s of pictures :)

I did check out this possibility, but it would have cost us more than POR for the dates we are staying. I never got past that, so didn't check for availability. I do have my eye out for last minute deals from DVC Dave, but I know that July is a busy time, so I am not holding my breath!

People here were renting their points for $10-$11 a point; you might want to check out the rental thread, but do it fast because like you said July is a busy time!

We stayed at AKL one time, never again...was not a thrilled with it...if you want to experience it go to Boma's or Sanaa one night for viewing...we have always stayed at Deluxe resorts and are thrilled about staying at POR!! The $1000 we save is awesome!! Much better than staying in a room we spend less than 2 waking hours a day in! :)

Oh, and I will add we were able to stay at AKL for $119 a night and had savannah view...I wouldn't pay that much to stay there again unless we were with friends/family who were eager to stay there :) The smells kind of turned me off, the rooms (back then) were dark and not appealing, the pool was just 'meh' and the buses were a pain, if we stayed at Deluxe again, it definitely would be for ease of transportation!

I'm thinking once you see how excited your son is with this surprise you won't even care about the resort. :) :) :) :)

I understand though. Part of the excitement, for me, is the build up of a new resort, esp one that I have always wanted to try. Now you get to keep that excitement for the next trip!

Thanks. We were not in a standard room at AKL, so the switch saved us quite a bit. We actually discussed going to a value instead, and we probably would have if we were going during a cooler time of year when we would spend the entire day in parks. But going in July, we plan to spend a good deal of time at the pool and wanted a good one. We decided it was worth the price difference value to moderate for the pool. We then decided on POR over CBR so we would have access to the pool at POFQ also.

And yes! We will be in Disney!:cool1:

And POR is my favorite moderate!!! LOVE alligator bayou! If you are a family of 5 request bldg 37 or 38. Best non preferred area, close to feature pool, and north depot. If your family is smaller, Acadian House is a great location for the same reasons. The resort rooms are all newly renovated and absolutely charming! It is awesome there! Enjoy!
