I had read the advice about paying cash for a cruise instead of using points.... and did so successfully I thought. But then my company got bought out, so I will probably lose my job, so I cancelled the cruise and everything was good.....

But when I called the credit card company to get a copy of my statement, which they hadn't sent out because I had a $500 credit, so no payment was needed..... I found out that Disney only refunded $4000 of the $6,500 ish of the payment.

I made several payments over the past year, trying to be responsible and plan ahead. My travel agent said, Disney had been very late in getting back payments.... and they don't seem to take particular care when refunding the money.

I'll let you know how this plays out but for now I'm really mad!!!

So I guess my recommendations is to make 1 or 2 payments, so you can keep track of things easier..... UGH!

If you followed the cancellation policies correctly, they will refund what they have received. One issue is whether you paid through the TA and if so, did they send it all in. I've seen it happen more than once where they didn't. Remember you can call DCL themselves in this type of situation or better yet, go in to your TA or call them and get a 3 way call with DCL. But if you had done it with points, you'd be in a heap worse trouble than you are.

I spoke with the Travel agent, and he will be in touch tomorrow, so I'll let you know what happens.....

I didn't know that the TA could take payment and not "Pass it on"... Hmmmmmmm.

Thanks everyone.

Sometimes, TAs hold payments until the cruise line's "Due Date".

Best wishes -

YIKES! Hope you get that resolved, because that's a pretty big "mistake"!

OH, Goldie, I am so sorry to here about your company & you may lose your job. I didnt know that TA hold your payments, thanks for the info. Dont forget when you cancel a cruise keep in mind the cancelation policy, 75 days or more you get a 100% refund 74 days to arrival DCL will take out cancelation fees, unless if you bought travel insurance. I would keep calling your TA and DCL everyday until you get this all cleared up. When was your cruise book, i thought you were going easter break ? Hang in there about your job, things will work out for the best :thumbsup2

My experiences with DCL indicate that you WILL get your money, but it make take a little time to get it to you for a variety of reasons. First of all, DCL will only refund in the manner that they were paid, as I understand it. For example, if you paid the travel agent and then they paid DCL, the refund will go to the travel agent and then back to you. In our case, we paid THROUGH the travel agent, but the charges were made directly by DCL to our account. In order to refund our cruise (which was paid through two credit card payments), it took no fewer than 8 credit card transactions because they have to refund out of multiple accounts once the cruise is paid in full (in our case, they refunded out of one account for taxes, one account for port charges, one account for cruise fare balance, one account for the deposit, etc.) Both times I have had to get a refund, it took several weeks. Stay on top of it, but also realize that the likelihood is that you are going to get your money even if it takes a little while. I know it is frustrating--I waited on getting a $500 refund for a mistaken deposit and had to, in the meantime, make another $500 CORRECT deposit (no it could not be transferred---UGH).

The TA contacted Disney, and everything is good.... I got about 10 different credits, and they now total up.

Doctor P, I wouldn't have know why the dribs and drabs on the credits if you hadn't explained to me the different accounts. (That is wierd...).

At any rate, I'm going to OKW 2BR with my parents for Easter, so life is still good. And now to go find a job ;)

Thanks everyone, you're the best.
