Does ToT at DL have the variable drop sequences like MGM has?

Some have said that it does, but I've only ever had the same drop sequence it started with.

I'm not sure, but there are definite differences between the ToT at DL and WDW. I definitely consider the one in FL better.

Do you consider the drops better or just the stuff before you get into the elevator.

The only TOT I've ridden is at WDW. From what I understand, the area where you go through the room with the Twilight Zone stuff isn't in the DCA version...is that correct. And the outside isn't nearly as well themed? Are those the main differences? Just wanting to prepare myself for our November trip.

I don't think it has randomized drop sequence - but I found the drops a lot more thrilling than the ones at WDW???? Maybe it's just me, but I thought it (DCA version) was a better thrill ride. The theming wasn't as good and I did miss the moving elevator, but the ride portion itself scared me a little more, haha. Oh, and the CM's I've had there so far have not been "creepy" as they are at WDW.

SPOILER ALERT: To read, click and drag over the following text:

You heard right, there is no room sequence. This ToT just goes up and down; The cars do not leave the shafts.

However, there is one special effect at this ToT which isn't in Disney. You'll have to ask about that, or wait and see. ;)

I can't comment on the drops... To me drops are drops and I've never really noticed a difference.

There you go. ;)

I have never been on the one at WDW, but I have been on the DL one many times, I find the drop sequence to be random. We were just there last weekend and were not able to predict when it was going to fall.
There is a twilight zone room, you go past the front desk into a holding room, where we watch a short video staring Rod Serling, talking about what happened to the people many years ago. Then the doors open and we proceed through the que, which appears to be the basement of the hotel.

The first thing the elevator does is back away from the doors then it starts going up and down, sometimes The door looking out have opened as many as three times, sometimes only once.

Even though this attraction has been around awhile, if anyone doesn't want spoilers, don't read my post.

This is my favorite attraction. I have been on it MANY times at WDW and just rode it for the first time this month at DL. I had the same questions you do.

The one at DL does NOT have random drop sequences. I specifically asked the CM's about this. The ride seemed the same to me each time at DL.

The CM at DL said that they eventually put in the random drops at WDW because the attraction had been there longer (10 years???) and they were starting to not have as many riders. So to rekindle interest they added the random drops.

At this point in time he claims the one at DL is new enough that they don't "need" to add the random drops yet to attract riders.

Regarding the elevators, at WDW they do move out of the first shaft and travel through the Twilight Zone "room" and then lock into the second shaft to do the drops. The one at DL does NOT ever move out of the original shaft. (Cost cutting IMHO).

The one at DL does not have a Twilight Zone "room" like the one at WDW that the elevator travels through. A previous poster referred to the Twilight Zone "room" at DL, meaning the first room that you stand in and watch the Rod Serling TV set. But the weird, special effect Twilight Zone room you travel through with the "eye" etc, is not at DL at all.

I did like the one different "scene" that is at DL that is not at WDW. When you first begin the elevator part the doors open and reveal a huge mirror effect. But overall, I just prefer the one at WDW.

I really prefer the whole entrance at WDW. The whole approach of walking uphill to this huge building and the whole decaying and unattended gardens/empty fountains with the steamy/fog effect and then the balcony right before you enter the lobby sets the atmosphere and makes me feel like I am leaving a theme park and entering a real abandoned hotel.

The one at DL feels to me like it was just plopped down at the end of the street and not a lot of thought went into theming as you go up to the front and wait in line outside.

Also, I noticed a big difference in the CM's. The ones at WDW have always been in great, serious, character but the ones at DL were talking to each other, laughing, or seemed bored. The only "getting into character" we saw them do was when they did the little speech before the elevator doors close - and it seemed like that was just an afterthought - like "Oh, yeah, I'm supposed to do this little spiel (sp?) and act intimidating, well, let's get it over with".

I had read up about the differences before we went to DL and I am glad I did because I was prepared for it not being quite as good as WDW and therefore I was able to enjoy DL's version for what it is. If I had no idea of the differences and went to DL expecting the WDW version, I would have been REALLY disappointed. That's just my opinion.

I know my post sounds negative about the DL version. However, I DID enjoy it. I guess I would sum it up like this: If I had ONLY gone on the DL one I would be raving about it. But comparing it to WDW, I would pick WDW's version everytime, hands down.

I was bummed when I read that DL's version did not leave the shaft. IMHO, TOT is THE BEST RIDE for ride and theming at WDW! I freaking love that ride!!!

I have never gotten to ride the one at WDW, I was too chicken then. But I have always had "creepy" bellhops at DCA. We always try to get them to brake character. Asking them to ride with us. Whatever to see if they will crack a smile. This one guy was so good, he didnt crack until he asked everyone to hold onto their belonging and loved ones. A young gal grabbed her friend, and they guy lost it. It was too funny.:rotfl2:

When I rode ToT at WDW I made the mistake of riding RnRC first. After RnRC, ToT felt like nothing in the thrill ride department. I rode it the once and thought "Was that it?" and had no desire to ride it again.

The ToT at DL doesn't have the RnRC to ruin it for me so It seemed like more of a thrill to me.

As I understand it, DLR's ToT does have the randomized drop sequence - BUT - they have not turned it on yet. Apparently they are waiting for a time when things slow down so they can turn it on and promote it as a new thing. With Nemo and PLATSI getting so much press this year, there was no need for the publicity. Maybe they will need it in 2008 and turn it on finally?

FWIW, I agree with previous posts that ToT at WDW is much better than DLR at present.

I will Tell you I got way more air time at the DCA TOT than the WDW TOT, but I was more afraid in WDW as it was my first time, and in DCA I knew approximately what would happen. I rode 2x in the morning great rides, but just before closing we went 2x it was Wild!!

I can't wait to try it out - although I do love ToT in WDW!

Hopefully DD6 won't be too scared to try this one as she went on ToT in WDW when she was 4 and got a bit of a :scared1: ! She said she liked it - but didn't want to go on it again - well, not until she was at least 21, she said!:lmao:

Speaking of Airtime, does DL TOT have the lap belts or bars or the combination of both? I loved the bar seats at WDW's TOT. They took them out maybe cause peeps like me were catching too much air!
