I have a good friend that will be in Disney with a large group of us in Oct. He wants to ride ToT. Is it possible to wheel the chair in and for him to use his board to transfer onto one of the seats in the front row? He bear any weight on his legs.

Ahhh yes I think. I know that we can get DW chair very close but I then help her get in the seat. So I;m not sure how close you can get the chair to the seat.

I'm a paraplegic and can make the transfer to ToT without any problems. You can get the chair close enough to the seat to make a normal transfer. I find it as easy as transfering in and out of a car.

BTW this was changed from how it was originally. Originally the opening wasn't wide enough to get a wheelchair close to the seat but on the last trip I took to WDW they had widened the opening. I mentioned this to a CM there and he said that it had been widened to improve access. :earsboy:

Thanks for the info! Im so glad to hear its easy for you to get into. He has never ridden it and is really looking forward to it and we were so looking forward to riding it with him as he has promised he is going to scream like a little girl when it drops!

Greatboys, you didn't ask, but I just found out recently (from experience) that if your friend wants, he may also be able to ride Rock 'N' Roller Coaster!!! There is one Limo that you don't have to climb over the door to get into - the door actually opens! I have to be honest, I don't know if the wheelchair would fit through so he could transfer, but it may be worth checking out.

I think Andrew (a DIS poster from the UK) has ridden that Rock N Roller coaster car. Hopefully, he can shed more light on it.

I've riden in that car. Actually once they opened the door I requested that they close it to make it easier for me. The problem for me isn't stepping over the side of the car it's being able to transfer to a height close to the level of the seat on my wheelchiar. Since the ride vehicle tracks are about 1-2 feet lower then floor level the seat for the ride is actually about a foot above floor level. When you open the door the seat is about a foot lower then my wheelchair seat. So what I do is keep the door closed because the top of the door is close to the same height as my wheelchair seat. Then I transfer to the top of the door and lower myself to the seat of the ride. It's alot easir for me.

The link below leads to a thread that has a nice breakdown of accessibilty for all rides at WDW from various viewpoints. I responded with how I handle each ride in this thread. As you'll see everyone has thier own opinions and accessibility will be different for everyone. Since your friend normally uses a transfer board he may have a rougher time then I do for some of these. One nice thing though is that since you'll have a large crowd he should hopefully be able to always have a helping hand nearby.

I hope it's not loud enough for us to hear in Minnesota.
;)

I screamed like crazy, but no noise came out of my mouth. I would have thought it was a very good ride if there was only 1 (one) drop. However many we got were too many. But, I do have to say that the rest of the attraction was neat enough to make up for having to endure that drop. And, my DD loved it.

Anyway, hope you have a great time.

Update:
we did just return from our Halloween trip and Tony was able to ride ToT but only when a group of us rode it. He can slide down into the ToT seat but wasnt going to be able to slide back up to his chair since it was a little higher than the ToT seat. But the guys in our group helped him slide back up into his chair. He loved ToT! and our good friend Laura bought pictures of the ride for our whole group.
