TOT Closing Date and Late Check-Out Event

The Parks Blog just announced a new HalloweenTime event for Tower of Terror (Late Check-Out) along with a closing date (January 2, 2017).

Am I the only one who doesn't get it? Complete darkness...other than when the doors open, don't you fall in complete darkness right now? Maybe they're going to keep the doors closed the whole ride. But really, opening the doors and seeing how high you are always added to the fear for me.

I'm tempted to buy some Farewell Merch, but that's just giving Disney money for shutting down one of my top 2 rides. Buuuuuuut....I'll probably give in.

It's been a while since I've been on ToT, but I feel like there were flickering lights inside the car so that the periods of complete darkness were limited or at least only intermittent.

Back in July, they announced that Tower of Terror would be closing in early 2017 to have a Guardians of the Galaxy overlay installed.

Based on the wording "its final check-out on January 2, 2017", I would take this to mean that it's last day of operation will be January 2nd.

They are getting rid of TOT but I guess they figured since it is such a popular ride, why not maximize profits on a TOT farewell tour. How classy of Disney..

I think they mean they are not going to have the little show before the ride really starts dropping. But who knows maybe they won't have the show and the doors will not open to the outside. That would be total darkness.

It was always in the dark for me... But I'm that constipated-looking person in the back row with my eyes closed so tightly and my death grip on the handles.... So I have no idea if there are lights on it or not, lol.

I haven't been on the ride in a long time. The last few times I did ride it, the row behind me screamed so loud the whole time that it disrupted my ride. I am not talking the normal screaming, it was like deliberate, let's see how loud we can scream the entire time. I take it since so many people still seem to ride it, those were unusual events? It happened a few times in a row and I kind of gave up on it after that. I've had the same issue in POTC before, but only a couple times. I'm just thinking I might not go on the late check out version because it seems more likely to happen during that.
