I'm a WDW vet, but have my first trip to DL next week. :cool1: I was wondering how Tower of Terror and Space Mountain differ from WDW. I used to like ToT better when it was only a couple of big drops, not the 6 or 7 smaller drops it does now. And, is Space Mountain as "bumpy" as in WDW? That ride always rattles my neck around, but if DL's has a smoother track, I'd be willing to take the risk to give it a try. Anyone know?

People say that other than the name and concept, Space at the two parks are completely different. Space at WDW has been said to be much more like the Matterhorn than Space at DLR. People love Space at DLR over WDW, I've heard. :) And no, it's not bumpy. (Matterhorn on the other hand is)

I can't keep track of the differences I've read about the TOTs, sorry.

TOT is like 6 or 7 drops but always in the same sequence (as opposed to WDW) where it is randomized. Also, the part where your elevator travels horizontally at WDW does not exist at DLR. But, unlike WDW, the line usually is no longer than 30 minutes than any given point in time.

Space is MUCH better at DLR. It actually closed for almost 2 years here while they completely rebuilt the entire ride. It is much smoother than at WDW. Also, you sit side by side at DLR instead of front to back like WDW.

Both rides are worth checking out. However, imho I think that you will probably be impressed with Space and disappointed by or indifferent to TOT.

I can tell you about Space Mountain. Since they revamped the ride at DL, It is much better than at WDW. All new effects and music in each seat. The seating is side-by-side at DL, one behind the other style at WDW. It is interesting to note that splash moutain is side-by-side at WDW, but one behing the other at DL

Space Mountain got rehab at disneyland. Its awesome. Side by side seating.

Tower of Terror:

1. DCA has no build up as you walk up to the attraction. You turn a corner and there it is. WDW you have to walk down a long street to get to the tower, that builds up anticipation.

2. DCA Tower does not have the outdoor garden queue line.

3. The Boiler room in the DCA version looks very cartoonish compared to the WDW tower.

4. DCA has the Exit hallway that you have to walk across to get to the elevator.

5. DCA ride is missing the 5th dimension room.

I agree that Tot is mostly the same, but I think some of the effects are new a worth seeing. DL SM has always been better than WDW's the rehab just plussed it a bit. You will enjoy it!

Same as others have said...my DH liked Space Mtn better at DL. (I couldn't ride it :sad1:, since I'm pregnant :lovestruc .)

Just got back on Thursday from our 1st trip to DL. I can't get over how much better SM is at DLR! The new side-by-side cars are an enormous improvement over the ones at WDW, and the tunnel effects & music are much better. And the ride is definitely smoother, and I think longer too. Love, love, loved it!

ToT is still great, though I do enjoy the garden at WDW more. I thought the ride seemed a little shorter too. Another ride that I thought was noticeably better is PoTC. So much longer, and more in depth. Loved it!!!:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Also really liked the NBC overlay on HM. We love Jack & Sally.

I was always too afraid to go on Space Mountain at WDW when I was a kid. But I've been on it at Disneyland a million times in the last few years.

I went on it at WDW for the first time this year and it was AWFUL! So painful. And not fun at all.

At Disneyland, the music is fantastic. It's completely dark. The ride is really smooth. It's a great time! You will love it.

Being so IN LOVE with Sp Mtn at DLR, and not a great fan of Matterhorn cuz it gives me a headache, I will never ride WDW Sp Mtn again! It is Matterhorn set inside the Sp Mtn building.
DLR Sp Mtn is FASTER, Louder, more stars, more comets, more turns, better music, smoother track, bigger cars, all around better totally!!!!!!!
I didn't get to do ToT at WDW, but my DD said that WDW was scarier cuz she didn't expect the horizontal movement of the elevator, but I still really enjoy DCA's.
Come and enjoy!! And don't forget that Indiana Jones is the vehicles from Dinosaur in a different story and POTC is way better at DLR with shorter lines, cuz once you are in the building your about 40 ft from getting on whereas at WDW you get in the building and thats when the line starts.

I thought Space Mountain was more painful than the Matterhorn. I actually like the matterhorn.

I don't know what it is about the Matterhorn, but my head and the bobsleds do not get along together. But I would take Matterhorn over WDW Sp Mtn anyday!!!!!!

Just jumping in here -- the seats at the Space Mtn in DLR have always been side by side. The 2-year rehab just rebuilt the same track and changed some of the features inside for the show effect. There has been music on that attraction for years. (Kind of miss the old song).

For the scared like me, I got up my courage with my family and did Test Track...

Is Space Mountain, DL much faster than Test Track????I'm a chicken!!!!!!:scared: :scared: :scared:

Thanks so much????????:goodvibes

That is exactly what I thought! I couldn't believe they "tricked" me by disguising the Matterhorn like Space Mt!

It's been 8 years since i rode test track but my memory of it is that you go fast for just a small section of the ride at the end (am i remembering this correctly?) So it's possible it could be faster than Space Mt. (i'm not sure) but i'm guessing it is fast for a shorter period of time where Space Mt, being a roller coaster will be fast most of the time.

It really only seems that way, but it isn't. Because you are in the dark and performing very fast turns, you get the centripetal forces that push on the vehical and make it feel faster.

It is pretty zippy, but I really am a ride wimp and I do it!

I believe Test Track gets up to almost or around 60 mph.

Space Mountain at Disneyland only gets up to around 32. It seems faster because it's in the dark and there's music....but it's a lot of fun. There aren't any big drops or anything. Just a little one about half way through.

Just back from my first to DL - I prefered DL Space Mountain to WDW because it didn't beat me to death, also prefered DL Tower of Terror as well.
It doesn't have a random drop sequence but the sequence they use is great - I was at WDW last month, rode ToT 4 times and all the rides were a bore.

When the 4 year old is saying the drop sequence is no good, you know it's no good!
