Read the announcement today about the TOT 10-miler (that they swapped for my Wine and Dine that I had been planning on for A YEAR grrrrr). Did I read correctly that the race starts at 10, and the party at 10:30? So an average 10-minute-miler will finish in 100 minutes, which leaves 3 hours and 20 minutes to party, if you DON'T even wash up! And family members get to pay $44 for those three hours??? I'm sure hoping I'm reading that wrong. That really seems like a crappy setup, considering what we pay to run these races, and this one only goes thru ONE park. I can't swap to the new Wine and Dine date, because this is my kids' fall break week--not to mention a "milestone" bday for me......(yes, 29! Ha!) Sheesh.

this 10-miler is gonna be lucky to finish in 120 minutes...even less party time for me :headache:

I could be missing something, but I don't see what the big deal is. It doesn't seem too different from any other post-race party I've experienced. You run, get your food and then hang out. The only difference is that Disney rides are open, so I'm looking at it as if they're EMH that family and friends get to pay for and use while waiting for you to finish.

I must be missing something as well - the party runs until 3 am. Yes, it means that a 10-minute miler might not have more than 3 or so hours to party after the race, but thats not atypical, really.

Just put a full change of clothes in the drop back, and a sealed ziplock baggie of wet wipes (or similar). Ultrarunners do that all the time - you won't be clean, but a few minutes with the wipes and a change of clothes will do wonders for making the average runner presentable.

I just think compared to the after-parties for the day races, the $ per hour is a good bit more. And my DH would never brave a park alone with the kiddos at any hour, but I'm sure for folks who would, it would be a better deal.

And I can't resist saying....I'm no ultrarunner--half marathons are my thing--but I'm no buttercup either. I've been literally hosed off with a firehose after a couple of races. But I'm pretty sure that no matter how fit they are, they won't smell much better than me after 10 miles and a wet wipe bath! YUK!! :rotfl2:

I go for the race. Perhaps a day race would be a better choice. Some races don't have after parties.

Are there usually places to change after the race, or will it be up to everyone to find their own spot?

Parking lots, bathrooms, bushes :)

I plan on bringing a long-sleeve shirt to throw on top of whatever I'm wearing. Maybe some sweatpants if it's really cold. This is also from the point of view that I can't see myself staying at the post-race party too long. 3 am is really late. You know you're getting older when the end of a party is closer to the time you wake up than the time you go to bed.
