Tory Burch purses????

My DD13 just won the Spelling Bee for our County and will be competing in March at the State Competition. We are so proud of her! She won $50 for winning and on the way home she hoping she could buy a Tory Burch purse like some of the girls in her class. Well, Mom here, didn't have a clue they were so expensive. Actually, I wasn't familiar with the brand name. Needless to say, I have a sad daughter now because she didn't have enough money. Just wondered if anyone has any tips to getting a great deal on one. Thanks!

Wow! I must admit I am surprised her friends have them! When I was growing up I thought it was a big deal to get a Kate Spade purse when I was 18.

I think short of buying a used one on eBay, your best bet is the outlet. I bought one there a few summers ago. It wasn't insanely discounted- maybe 15-20% off.

The service there is very good, so I think you could call, and ask them what bags they have on hand, and prices. Explain it is for a little girl, and they will know the most appropriate styles. I assume they can ship, but ask that first.

I don't know how deep the discounts go, but it's worth a look.

Have her look at C Wonder too. It's Tory's ex's spin off line. Much less expensive.

Also tell her congratulations! Hate for her to find disappointment in her accomplishment because it didn't net her a purse. She should be proud.

I have a feeling she's probably after the chain strap mini-bag or clutch purses. Those are popular with the teenagers to early 20's crowd here.

As mentioned, you can check the outlets. I know ours only carries really out of style bags (they had a grey wool bag in summer, an burnt orange colored bag in spring and a basket/woven style bag in winter) You never see the classic leather bags or the chain strap ones there (or on the clearance rack at the dept stores that carry them for that matter.)

Your best bet is to wait for Neiman Marcus or Bloomingdales to have a friends and family sale. I can't recall which one, but I know one of them has F&F in spring, maybe end of March, early April. The sale is either 20 or 25% off and Tory Burch isn't an excluded brand. Tory Burch also has a F&F sale, but I think it was in June or July and they pulled a lot of the "classics" (the leather bags, reva flats) from their site before the sale and anything left sold out quickly and wasn't replenished until after the sale. My last suggestion would be to check out Nordstrom Rack. I've seen the shoes there, never the purses, but if they carry the shoes, there's a good chance some stores might be getting the purses, though I doubt they would be any of the classic styles. But as far as getting anything close to the $50 mark, it's not going to happen.

If you decide to purchase on the Internet, be careful and purchase from a reputable dealer. A lot of knockoff bags are beginning to pop up...

i second dept stores. nordstroms also does sales at the start of the season for about 25% i think and they are on most brands. i would also consider this a lesson to teach her to save. it may seem like a lot but she can put the 50 in savings and then add to it on birthdays and other cash gifts.

i am really a bit surprised 13 year olds are carrying tory burchs. im all about quality but the bags are not made from titanium. when i was 12 i was still playing with dolls and in middle school all the girls were carrying bags from mandees and teen stores. ahh the good old days

As others have said, your best bet is going to be a friends and family sale at one of the nicer department stores like Nordstrom or Neiman Marcus. I have seen Tory Burch flats at Nordstrom Rack but never the purses. Unfortunately, even with the friends and family discount, she is not going to be able to buy a Tory Burch purse for $50.

DH bought me a $700 Tory Burch bag for Christmas and you know what I did? I had him return it. For me, the bag did not justify the price. If my DD asked for a bag like that, I would tell her to save her money and pay for it herself. Most likely by the time she has finished saving for it, she will want to hold on to her money rather than give it all away for an overpriced bag. Also, I really wouldn't want my daughter to have an expensive bag because I think that is just asking for trouble. Why carry around a bag that costs more money than you have in your wallet?

I have 2 pair of shoes my DH bought for my birthday and thought they were expensive. Maybe try looking online they have sale items (although not deeply discounted) and if you sign up for the emails they will send you a 10% off code. Sometimes also free shipping.

I actually did have someone try and steal my Dooney shoulder bag while I was walking in the mall with my mom! He grabbed the strap and pulled and I held on and he kept running! No one has ever tried to steal my Vera so I'll stick with them.

The Tory Burch outlets I've visited have never had any really good deals. I've found better deals at Nordstrom when they go on sale or clearance. I bought a pair of TB riding boots for under $100 a couple of years ago. I get a stream of comments every time I wear them.

Check out gilt.com and Ruelala.com. They often have designer stuff on clearance. I've seen Tori Burch on there before, but $50 for a purse may be pushing it even on clearance.

One thing I do with DD12 is tell her to focus on a style she likes in clothes, purses, etc. and not a particular name. Perhaps take your DD shopping for something in a similar style?

Same with me. Mandees was a teen staple. Had one in town where I grew up (north jersey). I have a DS so these things are so different but when I hear moms talk about their daughters.....good grief!! A co-worker was stunned to find out that girls are spending $400 for a sophomore cotillion dress. My DS is now in college but his sophomore cotillion was in the cafeteria. And girls were the same way

Do you have a TJ Maxx or Marshall's near you? Sometimes designer bags show up there. I've found Kate Spade and Coach and.... You never know what will turn up. Usually last year's style but usually about 50% off retail so it's worth a shot. Of course, at those original prices even at TJ Maxx she's not apt to find one for $50.

I went on Amazon to see what the fuss is about and found quite a few of these cases for about $15 to $25 with free shipping as well.

be warned some of those aren't genuine TB products. I'm all for Amazon but read the reviews, the knock offs tend to not fit properly and break easily.
