So I'm on the Magic in November and we'll be having a shorter day at Tortola, 7:30 am-1:30 pm

I'm considering the Jost Van Dyke Beach Transfer. I would just take the ferry over there myself, but the short day makes me a bit nervous to do that. I wouldn't want the ship to leave without us if delays happen.

Has anyone done this? We'd be interested in visiting some of the bars on the island like Corsairs and Soggy Dollar. It looks like those two are about a 30 minute walk apart.

Is it easy to get around on that small island? Does the ferry drop us off near either?

Anyone have any experiences doing this in general? Or did you do a trip to Jost Van Dyke without using a Disney excursion and how did it work out?

In April 2019, we were in Tortola on the Fantasy. We took the Disney excursion to Jost Van Dyke. The excursion boat picks you up next to the ship, and takes you on appx 30 min ride to JVD. There is no dock at White Bay beach on JVD, so when you get close to the beach, they anchor. Then you transfer in small groups to a flat skiff and they can get very close to shore (2-3') and you walk down the ramp to the sand. The excursion included a reserved chair area. Not a lot of shade there.
Soggy Dollar bar is right there along with a few others. Enjoyed the famous "Pain Killer" drink they serve. :drinking: We didn't see Corsairs, but could have missed it. We were there about 3 hours. It was well worth it to do at least once. Very beautiful beach. Soggy Dollar has a live webcam on youtube if you want a glimpse.
Would recommend this excursion. 👍

We do most excursions independent, but this is not one I would try on my own, especially with the limited time. We were just in the BVIs on a sailing trip and spent time on Jost Van Dyke. First, everything in the BVIs operates on "island time". Far worse than we've experienced anywhere else in the Caribbean. Ferries ran late. The ferry to JVD goes to Great Bay from the West End, not Road Town. You'd need to take a taxi to the West End. The walk from Great Bay (Corsairs) to White Bay (Soggy Dollar) goes up over a very steep hill. Corsairs would not be worth the trip, Foxy's is better, but Great Bay is not nearly as good a beach as White Bay. Your best bet to see Jost Van Dyke is to go through the ship or find an organized independent excursion.
