Am I missing something...Haha.
But..What is the Tortilla Factory?! Is it any good?! Ive seen a few different reviews on here about it.:confused3

Missions has a small tour through their mini Tortilla factory in DCA. The last time I went was in Dec. '03, so I don't remember much, but it's really not mind blowing. In fact, it's one of the attractions that people think are tarnishing the Disney image.

Thanks for the info. So it's nothing that I really should go out of my way to do then.

Hmm I thought I was the only one up in the middle of the night on the Disboards. HAHA. Nice to see I'm not the only odd one out :rotfl:

Although if you're there to celebrate a birthday, you do get a free pack of tortillas - and a lot of people think they are great and really enjoy the tour :thumbsup2

If it's not your birthday, then you still get a free sample but not a whole bag. Also, just wanted to clarify that you are talking about the tortilla factory in DCA and not Tortilla Joe's in DTD? I only wondered since you mentioned seeing reviews and I didn't remember seeing much talk about the tortilla factory in DCA but there has been a few threads recently talking about Tortilla Joe's.

It only takes 5 minutes and you get a yummy warm tortilla at the end. I think it worth doing and everyone I've gone with enjoys the tortillas (especially the kids).

We tried the tour on our last trip, in August, after avoiding it for years. Actually, we enjoyed it. The children were fascinated.

I feel so lonely at that hour!

But I wouldn't advise skipping out entirely on it, just something to consider when you have free time on your hands. When we went, it was a few hours before closing and we were with probably 8 other people who went through the tour. My opinion: it's intriguing, you get a tortilla, but not great.

Nope, I haven't been to Tortilla Joe's, but unfortunately it has a shaky rep on Dis. I haven't heard much talk about the factory either, but it sounds like the OP is wondering about it, perhaps from reviews from friends.

I love it!

You enter in a room and see a silly video about the history of Tortillas, you see "JIMMY" who must cringe now that he is an adult to watch the video hahah! Yell, "Mesca", then go into a second room that you mostly only stop in with kids our on your first trip, then go into the room to see tortillas made and get your free tortilla. On your b-day you get a whole bag.

Even if you find the video dull, how often does Disney give you a warm and tasty snack free?!?!?!?!?

I don't think the Bread one is as fun, as it seems longer and more dated, and well the samples use to be better haha, but I like the days the bakers are actually in there baking its interesting to watch. They were super busy last week. The bread bowl cutting lady was working too and she was crazy!! Sooooo Fast!!

I say give them a try they are quick and you get free food even if you never go back :)

I just have one word to say about the tour:

"Maseca!"

;)

Exactly! LOL We all say that when Jimmy does! LOL And at random times during whenever really....it's a funny word, we like to just say it. LOL

I like both, the tortilla factory and the bread factory. It's fun to watch but now we just walk thru and get our tortilla samples and we get our bread samples and then we wait for the doors to open and just walk thru the bakery. Sometimes I stop to look at the baskets of starter, sometimes we stop to watch some of the bakers, just depends on what's going on at the moment. But we like to do both tours. :) Usually we do one and then do the other. :) I am getting myself a Mickey head bread this trip.....or maybe next trip if we decide to go again next weekend. And Princess shaped pasta....then we can have a Mickey meal when we get home. LOL
So, we've only been to the tortilla factory once when they were making corn tortillas, it's usually flour.....is that the trend?

OH and if you get a soup or salad bowl at Pacific Wharf Cafe or if you get anything from the Mexican place right there they use the bread bowls and tortillas they are making in the factories. I think that is really cool! :)

My family loves it, interesting to see how the tortillas are made and of course have a sample at the end..lol

Oh it is seriously dated. I mean, Rosie O'Donnell? But there is more action to watch, definitely.

I don't see how the tortilla factory could tarnish an image...it's a cute little cartoon movie you watch, it's informational, then you see the machine that makes the tortillas, and you get a deeeelicious tortilla at the end! It's perfect! :)

We always have Mission tortillas around b/c DS loves them, and they are good, but the fresh-made ones at the factory are *incredible*.

Well in this case, I suppose We'll have to try it?! :confused3
Thank's for all your guys' reviews!! I wouldn't mind a free tortillia.
Anything free is nice :rotfl:
That's why I LOVE these boards. You get so many different opinions.:grouphug:

We love it! And their fresh tortillas are the best:love:

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up. My wife and I will say "Maseca!" while watching the video...and walking through the mini-factory.

I guess we're kinda dorks. :):)

Maybe but you fit right in around here! :thumbsup2

HAHA!

Don't listen to me. I guess I was expecting to go on some crazy tortilla thrill ride. You know, where you get to sit on a tortilla shaped doombuggy and then ride through the epic process of tortilla making.

I just went for the first time last week. I'd say if it's crowded skip it.., but we didn't have a wait and it was fun.., it only took a few minutes and the freshly cooked flour tortilla we got at the end was really yummy.
