Toronto Disney Store closing

Just passed by the Eatons Centre Disney Store at lunch. They had a sign up front saying that the store would be closing on December 26, 2011. No mention of a new downtown store opening just an advertisement for the Disney Store web site. Anyone hear any rumors of a new downtown store? I really don't want to go to Mississauga for my fix

I'm not sure what is happening with the stores. The Yorkdale one closed and now Eaton's Centre. They both seemed like busy stores to me.

I hoping that they will set up somewhere else in the mall or around Yonge/Dundas area. The new 1 Bloor east would also be a nice location but that building won't be done for a couple of years

I asked the CM working there and he said there wasn't any plans for a Toronto store.

I almost cried when I saw that sign. No Disney store in Toronto???? We're one of the biggest cities in Canada!!

It doesn't make any sense, Eatons Centre is a pretty big tourist draw. And as for their suggestion to use the online Disney Store, yes they have more adult themed merchandise but the shipping to Canada is outrageous!

I feel your pain. But, the Disney Store in Winnipeg closed last year *tear* and now the CLOSEST store I have is 7.5 hours away in MINNEAPOLIS or 15 hours away in Edmonton or Calgary. :( Atleast you wouldn't have quite as far to go if you wanted to shop. I just do online now but I HATE the $39.50 international shipping charge I get no matter what I buy!

Our Disney store closed in February and the closest one to us is now in Ontario or someplace in New England. I don't know why we can have the Disney movie club distribute movies from Ontario without international shipping charges but we can't have Disney store merchandise shipped in the same way.

Now I'm getting all my Disney stuff from Walmart, which is not what I really want!

I was so sad when it closed. My wife and I used to visit this store every time we visited the Mall. It was a tradition. Visit the mall, buy some Disney character plushies. I hate the fact that I can't find anywhere locally to buy Disney Gift Cards now.

I don't know why, but there must be "something" going on... It's a little too weird that a successful company like Disney is closing it's only remaining retail stores in MAJOR urban centers like Toronto... It's not like times are that hard at Disney... In fact I'm pretty sure they've made billions of dollars this year, as they do every year.

I'm holding out hope something will open in Winnipeg again. Sorry to hijack your T.O. thread.

Yeah I used to drive from Portage to St Vital mall JUST for the Disney Store. That's almost 2 hours of driving!

I'm happy to hear for Toronto that the store isn't closing permanently! :woohoo:

We've had no Disney Stores in BC the past 2-3 years. We had 2 at one point.

EDIT:

The above is incorrect, the store has reopened in a whole other area of the mall where an HMV was! For Canadian DVC members who may not be aware we get a Discount :)

I thought they reopened one of the DS in BC??

Yes -- Ironically I shall eat goat, I went to the a section of the mall for the first time ((ust an hour ago)) in months AND THEY ARE OPENED!!!!!

I loaded up on Ornaments!

I stand corrected :)

there are still a fair amount of disney store options in the gta

wth square one, the mall in vaughn with the bass proshop, and lime ridge in the hammer, so if the eaton centre one re-opens, there are 4 within a hour of each other

I hope that means they are just closing for renovations as this one of the original style Disney stores and was not renovated by children's place. Also it would be nice if we could get a World of Disney Store in Toronto, like the one in New York.
Yes a WOD would be amazing but I highly doubt it. We aren't nearly the tourist draw like NYC

Closing Dec26, eh? This might mean that I'll have to hop on the GO train one day soon and head down there.

I always popped in there every time we were in the city for my DS's Sick Kids appts. Now what are we going to do? :confused3

I also used to get great deals on Vinylmations there.

Sadly WOD isn't even in NYC anymore. We had a chance to visit the new Times Square Disney store and it wasn't very exciting. :sad2: Just a 2 floor store in the style of the one at Square One. Nothing like WOD... nothing at all.

once again, there are 3 other stores with in a hours drive or closer

if you live north of the 401 it would be faster to get to vaughn mills, than get to the eaton centre, most days
