Tornado Watch

Okay. I have to ask. What do they do if it looks like a tornado is coming through? For park guests? Resort guests?

Lived in Nebraska for 11 years so well versed in tornado "avoidance". IF a tornado is spotted and the siren starts, go to the nearest place that has no or small windows. Bathrooms are excellent for this. And we know Disney World has tons of bathrooms. IF a tornado is spotted and you are with our family of assorted sexes, heck be damned and take everyone to the nearest bathroom. Lay down on the floor, hands behind your heads and wait for about 30 minutes.

As I said, lived in Nebraska for 11 years and saw - 0 - yes 0 - tornadoes. Had plenty of warnings and watches but saw - 0 - tornadoes. But, take appropriate precautions if necessary.

Just saw they now have warnings for Citrus and Hernando counties. Not sure where those are in relation to WDW, but I'm praying for everyone to be safe.

TORNADO WATCH Per accuweather.com
Now - Saturday, Mar 29, 5:00pm
FL . FLORIDA COUNTIES INCLUDED ARE
ALACHUA BREVARD CITRUS FLAGLER GILCHRIST HARDEE HERNANDO HILLSBOROUGH INDIAN RIVER LAKE LEVY MANATEE MARION ORANGE OSCEOLA PASCO PINELLAS POLK PUTNAM ST. JOHNS SARASOTA SEMINOLE SUMTER VOLUSIA

To answer your question: Depending on where in those counties est 70-80 miles WDW is Orange & Osceola

I'm in Polk ( about 30 miles ) so yes thanks for your thoughts & prayers Right now the sky is dark gray and I can hear deep rumblings

IF at WDW I would say you are in safe and capable hands As others have said there are plans in place for safety The person that suggested bathroom absolutely safe I'm not abandoning animals but WDW is where I would head to if it was just me and the watch was elevated to something more

in effect today until 5 pm at WDW.

Nothing new in Florida. I can't count the number of times i have looked up in the sky and seen tons of cloud level funnels. Have had two hit my house when we lived there. Did't do too much damage just took out screens and plants... Go enjoy yourself, if anything develops they will let you know and what they want you to do. I can assure Disney is very on top of the weather. :thumbsup2

Tornado warning to north of WDW in Western Orange Cty and Eastern Seminole.
Severe storm and cloud rotation.

Warning is until 2:30pm EDT.

and be ready for more storms, Disney World...we're on the Gulf in Pinellas County (just north of Tampa) and we're still getting storms coming off the Gulf, heading across the state. Was raining so hard we couldn't see 20 feet out our window, lots of thunder, lightening and strong winds. Right now it's calm, just raining lightly with thunder in the distance. It's kind of weird because the wind just died completely...but I can see more dark clouds out over the Gulf which also show on the local radar.

I had never seen a tornado until I moved to Pennsylvania for a couple of years. Scary stuff..the sky goes all green, hail falls and the wind is horrific.:scared1:

Being from RI, all I knew was hurricanes, and you have time to brace for those.

Stay safe, everyone. Didn't know about the utilidor evac plan- that's pretty neat.

Just read in a trip report I'm following that the OP & family are sheltering in a restaurant at Epcot due to the tornado warning... Says packed in like sardines...

Thanks! Makes me feel better if we are there sometime and it happens. I lived in Nashville and Lansing. Both would get warnings and we had to go sit in a hallway or stairwell at school. But I have mostly lived in NY and wouldn't really think of it on vacation. Always good to be prepared.

The area around WDW has been in a tornado warning. The worst has now passed this area. I live about five minutes north of MK. The winds were very strong for a few minutes and we had very heavy rain. The storm has moved east. The Lake Nona area is now in the tornado warning area.

I posted this in another thread.

---------------------

At Magic Kingdom, during inclement weather, some attractions may operate as a rain shelter. This includes theaters, omnimovers operating at slow speed boarding every other car, and others. In the event of a reported tornado in the area, leaders will execute a Plan C evacuation and take everyone downstairs. If a warning is in the area, anything that may violate character integrity or ruin the show/magic will be hidden to the best of their ability in the case of a Plan C evacuation. During September 11, Magic Kingdom only had a Plan A evacuation and we have not, to this day, had a live Plan B evacuation.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the update - my son is there for his school trip and they are not allowed back to their room and have to stay in the parks. I texted him, but haven't heard back....appreciate the real time update.

Things have really quieted down. Rain has almost stopped. I'm still hearing some thunder in the distance, but it is pretty far away now. The coast areas are now under the gun.

Beautiful sky ending a crazy day Took a ride in the area on way to store just some small branches down & a lot of large puddles all in all we did well Hope everyone else is fine

Glad the storm has passed with what seems like little damage. We left this morning to drive home. Thanks to the storms, rain, traffic and two accidents it took us much longer than expected. Phew! Glad to be home. :)
