Tornado in Lake County, FL

If anyone wants me to try to get through to one of your family members from a local exchange, I'd be happy to. Just PM me the persons first name and number and your first name and relationship.

Sometimes local lines will work when long distance lines are down.

Anne

Anne - you are such a sweetheart!!! :goodvibes

Heather - I am glad you got word that your grandparents are ok. Mine are in the Spanish Springs area, Rio Grande. Who knew there were this many DISers who have relatives in The Villages!

When my grandfather called my Mom back this morning, he acted like it was not a big deal. They were out golfing for goodness sake!!! But then again, last year when my grandfather was in the hospital for a week, my grandmother didn't call us. We found out much later and I told her if she ever tried that one again, I'd come to FL and smack her (j/k)! She laughed at me. :rotfl:

I just saw some new pics of damage in The Villages - unbelievable. I was just there last month. :sad2:

He lived through an F-5 in Standale (by Grand Rapids) about 50 years ago and said it was just unbelievable.

The house we now live in was one of a few that were left standing after that tornado.

My prayers to all in Florida.

That would be great! I'd like to get Lake, Polk (Cause Virgo10 keeps sending bad weather my way ;) ) Osceola and Orange only. Too bad I couldn't drill it down to only get west Osceola!

I'll have to find the instruction book. Thanks for the tip!

Anne

the weather guy on cnn whose folks live in the villages held one up this am and specifically said it can be programmed for whatever limited specific areas you need...he said it was best $50 you could spend if you live in these areas.

Thanks for any information. A lady I used to work with and her husband live in The Villages and were supposed to be heading up here for the month of February to stay with their son who just had new twins. I sent her an email hoping she is already up here and can check in. Hopefully I will hear something soon.

Continued prayers and thoughts to all that were affected and many many :grouphug: to all that are down there offering assistance. Again, just showing what a great community we have right here on the DIS.

Please spend the $30 for a weather radio--I PROMISE it will wake you up when it alerts! Mine is in my bedroom, and I can hear it in the family room with the TV on.

Anne

The husband has quite a hearing loss and even he can hear that thing go off. It's the best $30 I even spent and I'd rather wake up a dozen times only to hear a tornado is no where near me than sleep through one that is. ::yes::

I think it is time to buy a radio. I see on www.wftv.com Midland is supposed to be offering weather radios at a cheaper price at area stores in the Orlando area. They haven't announced when they would start selling them.
