I know at breakfast and lunch I have seen our servers working at Topsiders. Are there CM that only work there? Wondering who is there at dinner time. We have always eaten in the dining room, so I had no idea. Is the food the same as in the dining room? What hours is it open and is it crowded or empty.

On our 4/24 Western cruise, Topsiders served dinner each evening with the exception of the first and last evening. We ate there twice during that time.

I remember the young server we had saying he just worked there at Topsiders and did not do the rotation restaurants. I think he said you have to work up to that.

I believe it was open from 6:30-8:30 and it was never crowded when we went at 6:30 or shortly thereafter. Only one section of the restaurant was used and that was the side where the youngsters buffet line was for breakfast and lunch. You got your own salad from the bar (excellent with veg. pastas, coleslaw, potato saled, etc. as well as mixed greens and toppings) and the rest was served. I had delicious rosemary and garlic chicken breasts with baked potato and mixed vegetables. Our daughter had stuffed pork chops and my husband had salmon. It was all VERY good! Recommend it for a quiet dinner away from the hustle and bustle of the rotation restaurants.

Best wishes.

Thanks-I didn't know they served you; I thought it was all buffet.
If those servers don't get tipped do you think they make any more as their base salary?

The buffet at Topsiders is for breakfast and lunch. Dinner was sit-down service. I don't belive they do this (dinner) on the 3 or 4-night cruises. Just the longer cruises.

Our server was also at Topsiders the next morning during breakfast buffet. I have no idea regarding his salary. We tipped him $10.00 both times (although he said it wasn't necessary to tip) but I know he really apreciated it. He gave us wonderful service and shared bits of his life with us. Should we ever take another 7-night, we'll look for him again. ::yes::

All servers work at Topsiders/Scoops, etc., on various rotations. Just because you only see them at dinner doesnt mean they only work evenings.. I believe there is a skeleton Quick Service team that may be in charge at Topsiders in the evenings. You only tip your own Server usually, as it works out equally for everyone in the end. Even the Palo staff work at other stations, ie: Scoops - when Palo isnt open. May seem a glamorous job, but is hard work. Nat:Pinkbounc

Topsiders is an open seating buffet. If it's open, you can go. Some folks choose it because it's more casual than the restaurants.

Am I correct in thinking that the dress code there is a little more relaxed? Would it be okay for the men to wear shorts to dinner? Thank you.

We didn't do Topsider's for dinner but on one of the Navigators it says "Topsiders Casual Dining". Another day it says Topsiders Alternative Dining.

Although I said it was buffet, it might be sit down for dinner but I would guess that shorts would be OK.

As I've said in lots of other situations, when in doubt, ask a CM.

Topsiders is casual dining. I think they ask that you at least have on a coverup if you're in a bathing suit (men would be asked to put a shirt on). But shorts is perfectly okay in there, even at dinner.

We've seen our dinner servers working both the breakfast and lunch buffets, and also working at Cookie's BBQ on CC. One cruise we ordered room service breakfast and when we opened the door, it was our assistant server bring the tray! They do everything.
