Topping Bars to be Removed?

I'm sure this has something to do with it. I saw an older couple at the WL in Feb making a salad out of the toppings bar. They just took their fries and burger out of the basket and made a big salad. We have witnessed this behavior many times throughout the "world", so figured it was a matter of time. Yes, no fixings bar at backlot, guess restraurantasaurous will be next? I like the fixings bars too. too bad.
Oh my gosh! And I've been told sometimes that I'm more than a little "thrifty". That really shocks me to hear of people doing things like that.

Ever been to a place called Fuddruckers? They have a huge topping and sauce bar and people make meals from it all the time. Back in the 80's they had the chili on the bar and my mom loved putting it all over her fries. They have since removed it

On topic: I don't think the change at Electric Umbrella is necessarily an indicator of things to come everywhere. However, it wouldn't surprise me if they revisited the topping bars as a way to trim costs, as they have done in other areas. Until we see more widespread evidence, I wouldn't worry about it too much and consider reports to be nothing more than rumors until proven otherwise.

:stir:

OT: During our first trip we utilized our topping bar trips to the max. We were just married, staying in the most flea bag of hotels and scrimping on everything.

We ate dinner away from the parks ($3.99 for a marginal buffet), breakfast in the room and managed to get enough together for a counter service meal in the parks each day as our treat. We ate a concocted side salad and lots and lots of sauerkraut. Kind of gross, but filling enough.

Judge all you want, but I feel no guilt. We paid for the meal. Unlimited veggies were included. That was 10 years ago and they've managed not to go bankrupt quite yet.

That's too bad! DW and I will miss the topping bars...and probably won't be ordering burgers at any WDW restaurant without one. Being able to put your own toppings on it makes a basic burger much better, IMO.

I'm with you 100% on this. If it's just a regular run of the mill burger, we'll probably skip it and eat something else.

Maybe that's their goal! The burgers weren't profitable enough, so they're gonna convince us to buy something else. :rotfl2:

We have seen the same thing at Pecos Bill's. People dump the basket and fill it up with toppings. One time, we saw someone do the same with a napkin. Who knows if he even ordered any food. Then again, we watched the same guy drink from the little creamers. You pay $50 to get in and drink from coffee creamer? :confused3

No cheese sauce at Pecos Bill or Cosmic Ray's last month.

Okay now I've heard everything!!!!!:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: I love the topping bars and love the onions and mushrooms and sometimes had some to my fries but that tops the cake. Someone should ban him from the topping bars.

I really needed a good laugh today - drinking coffee creamer:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I once saw someone drink coffee creamer at a rest stop restaurant (Roy Rogers, I believe) years ago.

People definitely make salads out of the toppings. If someone spends $7.00 on a burger and fries, I'm not going to judge them on a small salad. But I'm sure there are people who take the salads without paying as well.

Yes, I guess we've all seen alot. The last time at one of the A/S I saw a lady using the coffee creamer dispenser and filling up a cup for her kid to drink...YUCK! I have found that alot of hamburger places will put the tom/lett/pic on the side now with the burgers. All you have to do is ask in some other cases.

I have been to some places where they offer tomato, lettuce and other dressings wrapped in plastic for an extra charge.

The bad thing about all this is all it takes is for a cost consultant or some type of cost manager to sit and observe the fixings area for afew days and see all of the infractions and then decide the way to cut these costs is to put the fixings where people can't get to them. I have noticed lately it is hard to even get ketchup in some fast food places.
