Topolino's and another ADR question

We are traveling as a party of 8 and our 'big night out' together is Topolino's. I wanted to book it around 7-7:30 so we would finish and go outside to watch the fireworks. I was only able to get a 6:30 ADR. Will my plan still work or is this too early? I'm not opposed to taking a long time for dinner and then getting drinks for outside.
Also, one of the youtubers that I watched mentioned that he made an ADR for 2 people, but his friend couldn't make it so he was going to go alone. He said that he would pay the $10 charge. I thought if you check in even if you aren't the full amount reserved that you wouldn't be charged. I made ADRs for all 8 of us, but its possible only 6 of us will go.

You're right. It's unfortunate that people with platforms spread misinformation.

It may have been a simple misunderstanding on this YTuber's part.

I expect we've all conveyed inaccurate info quite unintentionally. I know I've been corrected regarding things I was convinced were correct.

The $10/per person is literally a NO-show fee, charged only if no one appears for the ADR.

I'd keep 6:30 and try to modify for a little bit later - but OTOH you probably won't be seated precisely at 6:30, you can eat slowly (order appetizers, don't order entrees until appetizers are served, etc.), and then as you say you can get drinks afterwards. The terrace is lovely, and I could see enjoying some after-dinner beverages while waiting for fireworks to begin.

Thank you! I was hoping if we went just a few minutes late and then it could take a few to get seated, this would work.

Also, regarding the youtuber and the fee, I was just making sure Disney didn't change the rules on that. We have 2 people in our party that might decide to go their own way, but I wanted to make sure I reserved for enough people in case they want to join us.

No rules change AFAIAA - as long as someone shows up, there are no penalties.

Just wondering - did the Youtuber say he was charged/did pay, or just that he would pay (if charged)? Sounds like he was uninformed, hope he came back to correct himself!

He was live streaming at the time. He said he would pay if charged. Maybe people were writing to him as he was filming and he responded. I haven't heard anything about the rule changing. I have even heard that you can check in in-person to tell the restaurant that you won't be dining and they won't charge you. You just can't be a total no show.

Instances where we've appeared with fewer people, we explained why that was the case and were not charged.

If Disney is now charging for guests who don't appear even though others are present, that would be a change in my experience.

I could certainly understand it if the reservation was for more than 4 people, because a larger table may have been prepared for the reserved number. Extra work for servers and no 18% gratuity if there were to have been 6 or more.

Never have heard of anyone who was charged, though, as long as someone appeared to explain. Not saying it couldn't happen at the restaurant's discretion.

Interesting and thank you! I have never heard of people being charged if less than the reserved amount showing up. We should start a Disboard poll to see if anyone has been charged.
No need for a poll. The answer is no, nobody has been charged a fee for showing up with fewer people.
