Up at the top of the Riviera Resort sits Topolino’s Terrace. Like everything I do at Disney, I am always looking for value. As we all know the cost of everything at Disney is high, so finding value at Disney is always a bit of a challenge. When it comes to Disney dining, for me anyway, finding value is exceedingly difficult. I’m often just as happy with a good burger as I am a fine steak at an expensive restaurant. If I am going to spend over a couple hundred dollars on a meal for two, it needs to do many things well to even begin to register on my value meter. We had heard many good things about Topolino’s so when it came time to find a nice spot to celebrate my wife’s birthday, we decided to give it a try.

Topolino’s is a mirror reflection of the understated elegance you find at the resort on which it sits. Like the resort, it just feels right. We are led to our table right at our reservation time of 8:45pm where we are greeted by our server who brings us some water and goes through some of his favorites on the menu. When our drinks arrive, it is time to head out to the terrace to watch the fireworks. Although we have ordered our food, our waiter informs us that he will time the appetizers to come out when we get back to the table.

As we made our way out to the terrace, my expectations were low. The fireworks are a bit far away and there is a large wing of the hotel obscuring some of the view. I must admit I was pleasantly surprised. The music from the Epcot show was piped onto the rooftop and the mix of sights and sounds coupled with my Espresso Martini made for an unexpected delight. While the music and center view of the Epcot fireworks were the headlining event, you could also see the Magic Kingdom fireworks to the right and some Hollywood Studios fireworks to the left, making the entire experience quite unique.

As promised, our appetizers were arriving just as we made our way back to our table. Kathy had the creamy ricotta appetizer topped with tomato jam, aged balsamic vinegar cracked pepper and basil. She liked the ricotta so much she had our waiter ask how it is made. I had the Romaine Insalata which was very tasty. For entrees, I had the Classic Sole Meuniere served with a browned butter sauce, capers and lemon. It came with baby squash, asparagus and petite potatoes. Kathy had the filet mignon with truffle pomme puree, broccolini, sherry champignon ragout and red wine bordelaise. For dessert we shared a warm chocolate cake, and some were surprised with some additional birthday treats. All the food was excellent with only crumbs left behind.

As Disney regulars, we are always searching for new places and activities to try that can provide the backdrop for the true magic to take hold. The special moments we create spending time with the ones we love. With great service, delicious food and a perfect location for sipping drinks while watching the fireworks, Topolino’s will certainly find its place on my list of special Disney memories.IMG_7859.jpegIMG_7860.jpegIMG_7861.jpegIMG_7862.jpegIMG_7863.jpegIMG_7864.jpegIMG_7865.jpegIMG_7869.jpeg

We often go for a late dinner/fireworks viewing from our table. With drinks, aps and desserts for four adults it winds up around $500 or so but worth it for a lovely dining experience.

Breakfast is a different and fun experience and not quite so expensive. We are never disappointed!
