Hi everyone, I am trying to decide what are the top priority items that I should take into the parks with me when I go to Disney this August! I don't know if I really want to carry around a backpack all day or not. Let me know what all of you take into the parks everyday and what you take your stuff in and if its a pain in the butt or not!
Thanks!

A few frozen bottles of water in a lightweight string bag...feels good on the back during a hot day.
A few disposable ponchos (unless there is no rain in the forecast)
Camera and phones (mostly pocket)

I use to carry a small crossbody bag, but it got to be uncomfortable and heavy after a few hours, even with minimal items in it. The past trip I actually went bag less and it was sooo freeing! There wasn't anything I needed that I couldn't get somewhere in the park: ice water- got at all CS places, band-aids for blister- got at first aid, etc. It was awesome not having to wait in the bag check line and not having to worry about losing it or misplacing it somewhere. And at the end of the night I had no shoulder pain! I will never carry a bag again!!

I printed out my FP+ times and ADR's on a small piece of paper and stuck that in my pocket. That's all I needed!

Definitely lots of money lol! But I am definitely leaning more to not bringing a bag at all because I do have the dining plan so I can grab a drink with my lunch and then more free ice water at CS! But then again I may want to bring a few frozen water bottles in so I guess it will just be a game time decision haha

My favorite thing I had with me last summer was a frogg toggs chilly pad. You can find these on amazon, and they are essential a towel that you get wet and it stays cool while also being magically dry to the touch. It was AWESOME. They come in a large variety of colors and cost about $10. Totally worth it. In fact, I wish I would have purchased more than one, as sharing it was not fun.

The essentials for me are: ID, Medical Card, Cash (at least $20), Credit Card, KTTW (now MagicBand), Cell Phone.

After those, it is based on the day as some days I take a bag and others I do not. If I do a break, I might take a bag for one part of the day, but not the other.

Items I usually take if taking a bag: Sunscreen, Lip Balm, DSLR +1-2 lenses, Notepad, Pen, Snacks.
(I get random thoughts that if I do not write them down I regret later and sometimes it takes too long to type into my phone.)

Shorts with pockets, so you don't have to go thru the bag line.

August is hot (but still fun!); the last thing you want to do is haul stuff around all day.

Me: hat on head, wallet, keys or MagicBand, cell phone. That's about it...I've even given up on sunglasses because I'm tired of taking them on and off.

I carry either a small backpack or a crossbody bag. It weighs so much less than what I usually carry that it doesn't bother me in the least. So in this bag I have: my phone (so I can keep up with errant teens and access MDE), medical card, camera, small holder for license/debit card/cash, tylenol, my motion sickness oil, lip balm, sunglasses, and ponchos if it looks like rain.

I should also add that I have also been known to carry one of those nylon drawstring backpacks in my bag, so that way when then kids buy a bunch of stuff they refuse to let me send to the resort, there is a bag for someone else to carry all that jazz in!

I really hope next trip I'll be going at a bit of a warmer time (we went last week of january), where we don't have to take sweaters for the cool mornings and late evenings.... my backpack by the end of the week felt like a ton of bricks. lol

Sunscreen, phone, hat, poncho, water, camera if not using phone, money CYA, meds if any

In August - a water bottle. Disney sells water bottle straps so you can attach around the neck of the bottle and wear cross body so your hands are free.

Other things - photo ID, insurance card, cash (about $20 per person), credit and/or debit card (each adult should have a different one), magic bands and/or admission ticket, cell phone for emergencies, hat to keep sun off face (hat hair doesn't matter while at the World of Disney), lip balm if needed/wanted, car keys if driving (two sets just in case and on two different adults).

Use sun screen before you leave your resort.

Oh crap - it's August - ponchos or whatever rain gear you want.

I have weaned myself down quite a bit from my first trip with two preschoolers, but I don't think I'll ever go completely bagless. I hate having anything in my pockets! Now I carry a string bag with my phone, camera, tiny first-aid kit (yes, I can get advil or a bandaid at first aid, but it takes so little room and it's handy to have whenever I need it), sunscreen and lip balm, small wallet, mini notebook and pen, wet wipes, phone charger, quarters and pennies to make pressed pennies, and this time I'll have mini fans and ponchos. Oh, and maybe autograph books for the kids if they decide to do those again. Yes, this is "packing light" for me! ;-)

I used to wear cargo shorts for women and this all fit in it except for the poncho:

Money
ID, insurance card, if I drive AAA card and car insurance card
2 credit cards (used to only bring one but I once had my husband cancel one on me because of fraudulent charges and he forgot to tell me!)
advil
Rolaids and one immodium pill
Blister block for when I go to Epcot only - to use on my feet halfway through World Showcase
Sunscreen (travel size for refreshing on my face, hair part, ears and anywhere else I could reach)
extra camera batteries and SD card
my Small Canon camera SX260 HS - love this little camera
Cell phone (it goes into a Mophie case in the parks so the charge lasts all day)
Lip Balm
index card with my ADR's and FP+ written on it for each park (I only bring what will apply to the park I'm going to)
Oil Blotters for my face

Now that womens cargo shorts barely have usable pockets I've been carrying either a small purse or small backpack. I've also added a hand fan that I bought in Japan in Epcot to the bag. And a small travel comb and a scarf to cover my head if I feel like I'm getting a sunburn on my head (I hate hats).

Moleskin to put over any blisters that form. Actually we take an entire Blister Kit because we're prone to them.
A disposable poncho in case of rain
Pain medication like ibuprofen
Camera (my sister also brings her phone)
Printed itinerary with ADRs and FP+ times.
Extra pair of glasses. I use my old prescription ones, they let me see well enough on a ride where I'm afraid I might lose them (Space Mountain, etc).
Tissues
Wallet with my allotted cash for the day. I don't use credit cards.
Small zipped change purse to hold money for tips
Lip balm

That's what I can think of off the top of my head. I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting at the moment. I do carry it all in a small backpack that I find very comfortable. I used to use a cross-body bag, but as the day wears on it rubbed against my neck uncomfortably.

Thanks for all the great replies everyone! Ill be sure to take them all into account when i start packing for my trip! Hope all of you get to go down soon too!

We are also going in August this year. I have younger kids so we will have a stroller that has a nice under compartment and cup holders. I purchased a small fanny pack, which I never thought I would. But after doing some research I am going to carry this on rides with my money, id, phone, etc...things I don't want to leave with the stroller. Then in a bag (which I am still trying to decide it I want to bring my backpack or just do a cloth grocery bag), which I plan on keeping under the stroller will go sunscreen, ponchos, small first aide kits (bandaides, advil, tylenol, etc), snacks for the kids and DH :) Also going to bring a small towel, hand sanitizer, and wet wipes as my 5-year-old has to touch everything and it drives me crazy!!!!

Just back from our first trip without a bag. It was great not having to carry anything around. I wore shorts with pockets and had moneyclip with some cash (never used it all went on magic band), credit card (never used it), insurance card (never used it!!!!) tables in wonderland card, annual pass card, photo ID. Small travel sunscreen for reapplication so my daughter and mine bright white arms and legs didn't become cherry red, lip balm, phone, small ziplock with 1 aleve 2 advil and to put phone and money clip in when on water rides and after water rides (man did I get the short end of the stick on Kali this trip, every dang ride I was the one that was drenched).

Already mentioned, but Wet Ones! So useful.

I keep a few in my bag all year and whenever I use them, the smell reminds me of being at Disney LOL
