Hey to all the alumni who are awesome and help out all the incoming CPers!

A friend of mine, who was an alumni, offered to make top ten lists for me before packing/doing the program (i.e. things to bring, things that you really should just leave at home, restaurants to go to, etc).

Just wondering if any alumni also want to post a top ten list for future reference!

Thanks so much!

P.S. Laptop printers – yes/no?

If you can, I would! Printers come in handy.

no printers needed, they have a comp lab at either vista or chatham.. just bring ur laptop and a zip drive to save your work and print out at the computer lab..

The machines in the labs now don't have Zip drives. A flash/jump drive works just as well though, or you could just email small files to yourself (that worked pretty well when I needed to print stuff out at the labs).

Having said that, about a month or two into my program, I bought a printer :lmao:.

I think it's easier to just bring your own if you have it. The computer lab hours stink!

I feel like it would be convenient, I just don't know where to put it. LoL

I love how this post has turned into one about printers and not top ten lists...

P.S. While we're at it:

Restaurant suggestions? My roommate and I are meeting the night before we move in on the 28th. We're going to have dinner with her family. Can anyone recommend a good place for dinner?

There are some good places at Downtown Disney. I LOVE Earl of Sandwich! Sooooo good.

LoL! I didn't even think about DownTown Disney. We're both staying in the SunSpree - which I believe it across the road from Vista. Are we close to Downtown Disney?

yes you will be close to downtown disney. if you make a right out of the sunspree parking lot onto 535, the entrance is maybe a mile down the road on the left. its right across from crossroads, which also has a tgi fridays, buffalo wild wings, mcdonalds, taco bell. there are tons of restaurants around, no worries.

Bring
1. Warm-weather clothes (it can, and does, get cold in FL)
2. a computer
3. a router
4. stuff to decorate
5. money for the first few weeks (you don't really get a paycheck)
6. a comforter for the bed
7. a camera
8. if above, rechargeable batteries!! They are a life-saver

Not To Bring
1. Too many clothes (trust me, you won't need that much)
2. stuff you can buy at Walmart (soap, detergent, ect)
3. stuff that is on the do-not bring list (including mini fridges)
4. pets (including fish)

On another post, someone said to bring bed risers....

Can you loft beds or make them higher? Is it good to bring bed risers?

just remember that you will have plenty of time the first couple of days to go shopping at Walmart. i would wait until you get there to see what your roommates brought and go from there. trust me you don't want five tv's in the apartments. bring essential items and remember you will be there for 5-8 months so you will accumulate a TON of stuff.

Thinking of Top 10 lists....I would really like to see something like "Top 10 Moments on My CP" or "10 Things To Do On Your CP Before You Head Home"

Just fun things, food for thought!

this probably isn't exactly what you are talking about but it was a cool memento and thought i would share it. one of my roommates made three of us a video picture collage with the song "forever young" in the background. it had pics of us throughout the program. here is the link to it on youtube

http://youtube.com/watch?v=aFOAQchkw5A

my best advice to all of you going to do the program is take pictures of everything! this video is something that i watch today and it brings me back to that time. make friends and just have fun. it can honestly be the experience of a lifetime but it is really what you make of it.
