Top Secret Pixie Dust! A Surprise 13th Birthday PTR! NEW! TRIP REPORT LINK PAGE 220!

I've wanted to go to HH for a while - it sounds great. It looks beautiful and it is a Disney vacation. You know they will take good care of you. Do they have a spa? Maybe you and Chelsea could go do that?
I'm sure you will have a nice vacation and Mickey bars always help don't they!
Of course, I will stay tuned for any possible changes! ;)

So if you can't go to Walt Disney World, Disney by the beach is the next best thing!! :thumbsup2

Having those Mickey ice cream bars will SURELY make a big difference and you and your family will enjoy relaxing together. Also, that pool looks amazing and so fun!! Congrats Jackie :woohoo:

I think a relaxing vacation on the beach sound great!!:thumbsup2 I don't know about you but I just cannot relax a whole lot when I am at Disney. We go back to the room for a break & I just cannot sleep. I keep thinking I should be in the parks or doing something besides sleeping because it's DISNEY. I think you have a great plan & if the other 3 members are on board that is great!!

Plus you will have the Disney touches:) Jackie are you on Facebook?? I recently joined & would love to befriend (is that how you say it) some of the wonderful Disney fans here on the boards.

Once again there are changes to the trip. Anybody surprised by this?

I'm going with NO.

Sand between our toes, leisurely seafood dinners, morning sunrises over the marsh, and the smell of the ocean

Sounds pretty good. :)

It is where I grew up, so naturally it feels like home to me. In order for me to get my Disney fix, we will be staying in a one-bedroom villa at Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort for five days. I am looking forward to it – I think it will be something new and different for us to try, but it will still retain the Disney magic – after all, they do have Mickey ice cream bars and a gift shop. ::yes::

A little Disney is good.

I also like the idea of a relaxing summer vacation.

Me, too.

Instead, we will be watching the sunrise from the pier:
HHIPier.jpg

We will be relaxing by the pool:

And we will be enjoying a much quieter kind of vacation:
HHIBoardwalk.jpg

I will confess, though, that I have not canceled our Disney package yet. ;)

I am at school, so I can't see the pictures. I'll look forward to seeing them tonight.

I'd hold onto the Disney package for a while, too...just in case. Those Disney commercials might change things eventually, but if not, I know it will still be a great vacation.

It does somehow seem wrong to be disappointed with a vacation at a beach resort doesn't it?

I'm sure the enthusiasm from the other three members in your family will rub off on you. Plus it might make them miss disney and insist upon going back for your next family trip.

I not gonna write too much about Hilton Head in case you are punkin' us because it's April Fools Day....but I will say that I can't believe Disney would ship the Electric Parade all the way to Florida just for one summer......

Sounds good to me! We will spend the week after Disney there (well, not THERE, but in that area) to recupe from our trip. Of course we can only do both because the Disney part is covered by MAW. Anyway, sounds like a great alternative to me!

Did you rent points? That 1 br is going to spoil you for sure!
I would so love to give HH a try! Sounds like so much fun!!
Is this my 100th April fools joke of the day?

Hilton Head will be so much fun. But hmmmmm, you didn't cancel the ressie? Lol.

I am so excited for you Jackie! I think HH is so fun... and the disney touches will be great!

If this is a joke, you've been setting it up for a bit... If not, I'm sorry that you aren't too enthusiastic. Regardless, though, you will have such a great time with Connor and Chelsea and some stories to share of how you did incorporate the Disney magic (unless you find a way to use the other ressie, of course.)

 Debby

CP.....I think that is a fabulous idea! :thumbsup2 HH is supposed to be great! I can't wait until I get a chance to stay there. I know you rather be at the parks, but this seems like a wonderful alternative....and it certainly must be more cost effective without the park tickets.

As I am getting used to the idea, I am liking it more and more. I think it will be a lovely vacation.

We stayed at Vero Beach a couple summers ago and it was really fabulous. I really enjoyed our 1BR villa, the views, the pool, the beach, the customer service.....it was really a nice stay. I would go to either beach resort in a heartbeat.

I have read nothing but rave reviews about the CMs at HHI, also. I think having that Disney quality at the beach is going to be fabulous.

Changes, changes, changes!!!! I LOVE the sound of your vacation! A little Disney magic mixed in with lots of relaxation, sounds heavenly to me:cloud9: The Hilton Head Resort looks beautiful! I admire your ability to be happy no matter what kind of crappy cards you have been dealt!!!:goodvibes

Oh, Diane, you haven't heard me complaining. I do find that once I complain a bit, I am able to move on and try to look on the bright side.

ok is this an April fool joke? no disney?? bummer, the beach does sound great though! and the pictures look cool..... Did you do the give a day get a day? if so, just do like we are and go for a quick weekend at a value and a free day at one park, gives you alittle fix without breaking the bank... :)

Nope, no April Fool's joke here. We didn't get a chance to do the GAD before it ended, but I have decided that a year without the theme parks "might" be okay.

Okay sweetie, this year when we are both missing the Mouse at the beach, let's put on the Electrical parade's music---I have it if you need it---and close our eyes and imagine we are there seeing it for ourselves....do you think that will work?!?!?!?!?!

Yeah......me neither!!!! ;)

:rotfl: Well, we can try...;)

Well...I was close...just the wrong State! HH looks very nice and relaxing. I think 2006 was the last time we went to the beach too. We went to Edisto and had a lovely time. I'll be on the look out for a good Summer read so you can have a good book to read while you're lounging on the beach with your umbrella drink. :goodvibes

Since I grew up in Charleston, just the smell of the approach to Hilton Head always makes me smile -- and seeing Spanish moss and Palmetto trees -- and eating shrimp that was caught that morning. There are a lot of things I enjoy about heading to the coast, so I know I will have a good time.

I don't know much about Hilton Head but it sure does look relaxing! And sometimes, you really need that downtime. I bet you'll really enjoy just spending quality time with the family, soaking up that gorgeous atmosphere Jackie!! How far is that from home for you? :goodvibes

It is very relaxing. We used to spend a week in Hilton Head every summer until we started heading to Disney instead. Being able to just take things easy on a trip will be nice. It is only a five and a half hour drive for us -- I am excited about that!

YAY for you!! That is super fun -- so you get the Disney bit afterall! and a 1 bedroom villa! YAY!!! It really looked like a great place when we were there that night!

The one-bedroom with that balcony is going to be heavenly. I think the size of our accommodations is what Charles is most excited about!

So is this trip during the exact same time? Can you do TWO days at Disney and time at HH? I think that is so funny that you held onto that reservation still... I finally cancelled our BBack reservation for this summer, I was toying with the idea of moving it, but I didn't know when, and I figured I'd get another BB offer when we go this summer, which would hopefully include 2011 dates... but it was weird "cancelling" it!!! :sad1:

Almost the exact same time. We did decide to be there on Chelsea's actual birthday. We are going to wait on a Disney trip -- make it something really big and fun in 2011. I think I needed to get used to the idea of no Disney before canceling the package. I am going to give it just a little bit longer. Just in case...

I am going to send you a little something from HH, that I got there -- it will get you excited for sure. They have campfire stories, etc, and I bet you will really like it! I am impressed you could get into HH! We tried for the few days there vs. Vero and it was totally booked, so SCORE for you!!! :thumbsup2 It was very summer camp, like I told you, and just really neat! Feel free to borrow my photos  I bet it will be really fun in the summer....

Oh, yeay! You know how I love getting Mickey mail and anything to add to the excitement will be greatly appreciated! We are looking forward to the campfires and all the arts and crafts stuff. I have started a trip binder for it -- lots of ideas swirling in my head for the trip. I will tell you that I found a bakery today for what I think will be Chelsea's birthday cake.

Thanks for the picture offer -- I may be taking you up on that! :goodvibes

We did a cash reservation over a weekend which played in our favor, I think.

Hilton Head is fun and you will be able get your Disney fix. You need to be sure to plan a day touring Savannah or least a night going through the shops on the riverfront. Maybe visit Paula Dean. To get in the mood read Eugenia Price's Savannah Trilogy. Which are great books for the history of Georgia, Savannah, and North Ga. from Marietta/Roswell to above Cassville with romance.

Oh, thanks for the book recommendations! I will definitely look into those! I think Eugenia Price also wrote a book about Charleston, but I may be wrong on that. I read it in high school which was many moons ago.

Some time off from Disney may just make you love it even more the next time you are there. Absence makes the heart grow fonder you know! HH looks great and I must say that I am very happy to hear that you will be visiting there as I would love to here more about the Disney places at the beach. I hope you will still do a TR since it is Disney property! :flower3: I have heard very little about HH or Vero Beach so I am really looking forward to hearing all about it.

I know it's not what you had in mind, but I hope you will allow yourself to get excited just as you would be for Disney. The mouse will still be waiting for you (and me) whenever we get our ducks in a row so that we can go back! ;)

Charles said that, too, about taking time off from Disney. Since I never stop missing the place, I don't know if I need a prolonged absence. ;) I can't wait to stay at the Disney HHI resort -- I think it is going to be great fun for all of us! Of course, I will be planning the 2011 Disney trip in the back of my mind. LOL!

Oh I think this is a great option! I'm so glad you could do the Disney resort too! I have been to Hilton Head as a child and really enjoyed it. I'm sure it will be a great family vacation.

Maybe they'll bring back the MSEP again next summer and it will be better timing for the trip to Disney.

Plus, if the family gets a break from WDW this summer, it will be even more special when you do get to go back!

Thanks, Susan! We do love Hilton Head and are looking forward to heading back there this summer.

HH looks beautiful! And you'll still have some Disney magic :yay:
I'm glad you were able to find a solution to your vacation situation this year.

Hmmm, the WDW package hasn't been canceled? Could more changes be on the horizon?

Thanks! We've been wanting to try the Disney resort at Hilton Head for years now, so I am glad that things have worked out for that. Hopefully no more changes unless I flake out completely and can't handle being without Disney for a year. LOL!

HH looks like a great alternative. Everyone gets their beach fix, and you get your Disney fix somewhat!

Sitting on the beach, reading a book, dozing off as the sun heats you up.......Sounds like a great, lazy, summer day to me! :thumbsup2

Yes, wriggling my toes into the sand while I read does sound wonderful!

Sounds like a great plan! :thumbsup2 I love how - even though you won't be going to Disney - you're still including it by going to one of the Disney beach resorts. I'll be very interested to hear how you like it!

Thanks! I hope I fall in love with it -- since it is Disney, I don't see how I couldn't! :goodvibes

I think it sounds lovely and very AWAY which is really really nice. Different from Disney to be sure but really really nice!

I feel your pain, one member of our group is now saying he doesn't want to go because it will be too hot.

It's hard to please the group and ourselves sometimes!

I think you will love it and it will be incredibly relaxing. I adore Hilton Head and LOVE low country food. I'd go just so I can eat!

Oh, no! Who doesn't want to go now??? We used to vacation in Hilton Head a lot when the kids were younger -- I can't wait to get a big ol' plate of fried shrimp at the Sea Shack!

The beach sounds like a great vacation. I've never been to Hilton Head, but it looks very relaxing. Plus, you'll still technically be on "Disney property", right? :goodvibes

It's lovely in Hilton Head and being on Disney property will just add to the beauty of it all!

It's the beach, but it's still Disney!! :goodvibes

Kathy

My thinking exactly, Kathy! I told Charles I would not be going to HHI unless we could stay at the Disney resort. Luckily, they had cash rooms available.

Of course, I will stay tuned for any possible changes! ;)

I have drooled over the Disney HHI pics for years now! I am glad I will finally get to experience it! I can't begin to tell you how much those Mickey ice cream bars played into sealing the deal for me. LOL!

You know we love our Disney pools, Kristen! I have a feeling we will be spending a lot of time at this one!

Plus you will have the Disney touches:) Jackie are you on Facebook?? I recently joined & would love to befriend (is that how you say it) some of the wonderful Disney fans here on the boards.

Nope, I can never manage to really relax at Disney -- I am always thinking about the next thing we need to do. It will be a whole different vacation in HHI, that's for sure.

I am on Facebook. I will send you a PM when I am done with replies. :goodvibes

I'm going with NO.

:rotfl:

Sounds pretty good. :)

I think so, too, especially as the craziness of the approach of spring break and a full moon has wreaked havoc on my nerves this week.

A little Disney is good.

I am at school, so I can't see the pictures. I'll look forward to seeing them tonight.

I'd hold onto the Disney package for a while, too...just in case. Those Disney commercials might change things eventually, but if not, I know it will still be a great vacation.

Yes, I don't think I could do this trip if we weren't staying at someplace that is Disney owned. Do you know what I did today? I started looking at room prices for October. :lmao:

It does somehow seem wrong to be disappointed with a vacation at a beach resort doesn't it?

I'm sure the enthusiasm from the other three members in your family will rub off on you. Plus it might make them miss disney and insist upon going back for your next family trip.

It does, doesn't it? I am feeling a little better about it today as I start putting together a trip binder for Hilton Head.

I think the beach sounds great! And a Disney beach sounds even better! :thumbsup2

Disney quality and a beach vacation will blend nicely together, I think.

I not gonna write too much about Hilton Head in case you are punkin' us because it's April Fools Day....but I will say that I can't believe Disney would ship the Electric Parade all the way to Florida just for one summer......

:rotfl: Heidi, you make me laugh. Being a middle school teacher, I LOATHE April Fool's Day, so I promise you I am not punking you all!

Sounds good to me! We will spend the week after Disney there (well, not THERE, but in that area) to recupe from our trip. Of course we can only do both because the Disney part is covered by MAW. Anyway, sounds like a great alternative to me!

I hope you fall in love with the Lowcountry. It is truly a magical place although a different magic than Disney. It has such charm and grace! :goodvibes

Did you rent points? That 1 br is going to spoil you for sure!
I would so love to give HH a try! Sounds like so much fun!!
Is this my 100th April fools joke of the day?

Nope, we went with a cash reservation. We are staying over a weekend, so that worked in our favor, I think. I can't wait to experience a one-bedroom. I am very excited about the full kitchen (although I don't plan on cooking -- just making sandwiches and pina coladas for lunch) and the washer and dryer (a must on a beach vacation).

Nope, no April Foolin' -- I hate this day! I was so pleased that we were on spring break for it last year, and I didn't have to put up with middle schoolers' ideas of jokes.

Hilton Head will be so much fun. But hmmmmm, you didn't cancel the ressie? Lol.

Just keeping my options open, Cass! :rotfl:

I am so excited for you Jackie! I think HH is so fun... and the disney touches will be great!

Thanks, Laura! I am getting more excited about the trip! I am really looking forward to the beach and relaxing.

 Debby

Nope, not joking. I am not that cruel. :goodvibes I am feeling a bit more enthusiastic -- I think it is just the shock of not having a Disney trip planned for the first time since we started going every year in 2007.

I think so, too, especially as the craziness of the approach of spring break and a full moon has wreaked havoc on my nerves this week.

Yes, I don't think I could do this trip if we weren't staying at someplace that is Disney owned. Do you know what I did today? I started looking at room prices for October. :lmao:

You are a sick individual.

Said by someone who presently has two trips on the books, October dates set, and trying to decide between Thanksgiving and Christmas for a holiday trip. :rolleyes1

:rotfl:

I was also contemplating whether I would lose the Mother of the Year award if I made the October trip another adults-only trip. After all, the kids did vote for Hilton Head instead. :rolleyes1

Serves 'em right!

And I can't even begin to imagine what Bo is going to think when he finds out Chelsea ditched him for a beach lifeguard. :cool2:
