In case you missed it last weekend, Sen. Majority Leader Bill Frist was on television announcing what he saw as the absolute top priorities for the next congressional session. So...what do you think he chose ? Homeland Security? The "War on Terror" ? Gasoline and energy prices ? Healthcare costs ?

None of the above.

Gay marriage, flag burning, and a tax that affects less than one percent of Americans (and those are dead) ?

Yep...those are the most important issues facing Americans today in the World According to Frist.

:rotfl2:

If you've ever wonder why the 'B' in the party name is sometimes replaced with a 'G', look no further.

He forgot the Bi-partisan legislation to protect their own offices from being searched so that they can continue their illegal activities. pirate:

I have to agree with you. War, Iran, Energy...I could go on and on. I am afraid both parties are using a sitting on their hands policy before elections.

The sad part of it is that the next round of elections will be won or lost based on "Gay marriage, flag burning, and a tax that affects less than one percent of Americans (and those are dead)" because these are the issues for which swing voters go to the polls. It's a sad commentary on our culture (our maybe lack thereof).

So what is Pelosi's and Reid's top priority items?

Again with the name calling when you disagree. At least you're consistent.

I'd have to agree with this - these are the issues that win elections.

Charade, even you have to feel a slight bit manipulated by your party's leadership as they cart out these same positions every election to stir up the base, only to completely forget about almost every one of them until the next election cycle rolls around. I certainly would!!

I would think terrorists finding new and creative ways to be invading our country would be more important than gay marriage.

But maybe I am missing something. Are gays the new terror group and if we do not let them get a marriage license then we are immunized against attack? :confused3

As a Republican, I would be curious--however...you seriously think these topics are the MOST important and pressing issues of our nation at this time. Seriously? :confused3

Well since the Republicans haven't done crap (according to the left) about HS and terrorism (only made it worse), I guess they figured they'd move on to something else.

If the left were in the lead, the same crap would be happening. I'm disgusted with MOST politicians, left AND right! Happy?

I didn't say they were. But the OP is famous for these types of posts. I'm just curious as to what their top priorities are outside of undermining everything the right does.

I think it was a validly raised point.

Though it is fair to ask what the leaders you asked about place as their opinion on priorities.

And since you didn't say they weren't more important (I would assume that means other things certainly are), it seems you do actually agree with the OP.

So why take the low road and turn this into an argument over something you don't actually disagree with.

We could all actually talk like grownups for once. :woohoo:

Charade, I am curious what the democrats top priorities are also. All you are doing is asking a question.

I also find it dissapointing that republicans are making this their #1 priority, and I am a republican.

Hey, far be it from me to actually defend the democrats in congress when it comes to having a cogent, definitive plan that is well stated in public. :teeth: I never said my chosen party was perfect, just that it is better than the alternative, and I think that Frist's list of "priorities" is the perfect example of why that is the case.

Don't you ever tire of using the same tactics, John? Rather than defend what the leaders of your party are doing, you feel compelled to attack the leaders of the opposition. :confused3 Why is that, do you think? By all means, I'm willing to listen to whatever reasons you can give for continued support of a party that keeps trotting out these same issues every election cycle, only to ignore them once the election is passed. Why do you continue to defend the indefensible, not with logic and reason but with attacks?

Oh, and as for the Dems "priorities"...I would think that health care, education, and the diminishing middle class would be somewhere near the top...just as they always are. Can you think of a single "wedge" issue that has been introduced by the Dems in the last few election cycles? The closest I can think of is ethics reform, and I'm not sure how that plays to anybody other than people that would like at least a little honesty and integrity out of their politicians.

No, it is only the Republicans that keep bringing up these meaningless issues in attempts to play to their ultra-conservative base. That it happens to work for winning elections says a lot more about the people continuing to vote for them than it does about their opposition, in my opinion.

No wonder Congress has a lower approval rating than the prez. :sad2:
