What makes the top floor at OKW so special! I'm aware it's to do with not being bothered by noise from anyone staying above you, but it never seems to mentioned as a problem at any of the other DVC properties or hotels. It's certainly not even something I've ever thought about before.

Is it a problem peculiar to OKW? I have heard that the soundproofing between a studio and a 1bdr isn't always brilliant - so is it a similar thing between floors? Or is it more to do with the fact that someone is actually "living" above you, as opposed to just using a hotel room to rest their head for the night? If so, is it a problem at the other DVC properties too?

Not worried, just interested. :D

You usually get a better view. Some of the first floor rooms at OKW face bushes & vegetation. On the other hand, it's a long way up with luggage and when you are tired late at night.

We always ask for a 3rd floor room, mostly for the view. It also guarantees that you won't get a handicapped accessible room, since all but three buildings don't have elevators. We had an accessible studio once, and didn't care for it.

We also always ask for 3rd floor(top), mainly to not have to worry about little ones running around above you:( , and you won't ever have to worry about getting a handicap accessible room. We don't mind the walk up 2 flights of stairs to get the privacy, and the better view also.:D

Our last trip Home was our first to OKW. We had a 2-BR on the third floor (4132 if anyone is interested). It was a bear hauling a weeks' worth of food for 13 up the stairs, along with all of the 'extra' supplies we laid in for the week, but being on the third floor meant my nieces and nephews were the ones annoying our lower floor neighbors, not the other way around. :)

The view was nice. The balcony had a nice view of the pond and its fountain and we couldn't see anything 'distracting'. And, from the balcony and from my side of the master bed, we could watch the higher fireworks at Illuminations. :)

I've read where people have complained about the noise at some of the OKW rooms, they're being near two major roads and all. I sat on the balcony drinking my morning coffee wondering about that since I found it peaceful and relaxing...until my F-I-L pointed out all of the racket from the busses. I guess I'm just a city boy...diesel engines are just part of the background when I'm at home home. ;) It's all just a matter of perspective.

The noise is the reason i ask for the top floor. I have been a member since 95 and never had anything but a top floor. There is no chance of someone running around over head. The jet flush toilets still can be heard but I am sure they are not as bad. I could care less about the view, but if you do it is always the best from the top floor.

We always request a first floor room. Only a couple times in ten years have I noticed noise from upstairs. I just chalk it up to excited kids.

It is not just the little kids' running around that bothers me if staying on a lower floor; it is those vacuum cleaners! We are not early risers, and I am a light sleeper (a curse!), so I usually ask for top floor in a bldg, whether it be 2nd or 3rd at OKW, or just top floor at one of the other DVC's with elevators.

The upper floors have better veiws and you are less likely to be bothered buy ducks while haveing morning coffee on the belcony.
