Just curious if anyone else was surprised that Marcel didn't win? Ilan is a Spanish cook, and I didn't see anything different in the last 2 shows. Same old same old stuff from him...

They really made a mistake (IMHO) not having Sam in the finale. I mean...HELLO... how many more challenges did he need to win anyway? Not to mention he was a hottie! I still think he was hands down the winner....

Can you believe I missed it last night? Everyone is fighting colds here and we all went to bed early.
So what was the final challenge? Tell, I can't wait for television without pity to do their review.

I was very surprised and disappointed. Ilan didn't step outside his comfort level. I'm sure he makes dishes similar to those every night at work. Marcel may have had a miss with the salad but at least he was innovative and challenged himself. I have to wonder if the personality angle came into play in their decision.

How freakin awesome was Sam rescuing Marcel's dish when the fish went missing? Sam is the man. And even more so by being big enough to say he would prefer to work with Marcel despite whatever differences they had in the past. And how small and petty is Betty right up to the end!

AWM - I love Television Without Pity! When I missed a bunch of episodes around Christmas I went back and read all their recaps and I was cracking up at how funny they were and how dead on their impressions were - like calling him Ted Ilan, calling out Chef Collichio (sp?) on how haughty and mean he can be, and making fun of Padma's weird inflection and pauses. I'm sure you will be able to find a rerun of the finale since Bravo is huge on reruns. The final challenge was simply cook the best meal you've ever made - 5 courses.

Did anyone watch Top Design afterward? I liked it okay - I'm not sure I'll watch every week but I think I'll give it a try. Todd Oldham was the host and he was certainly a lot nicer than the Top Chef hosts, at least for now. Since he's not a judge, he's more like a Tim Gunn than a Padma.

I really thought Sam was awesome too! :goodvibes

The judges all but said that Marcel will eventually surpass Ilan. I think they were so angry at the immaturity of these people. Elia trying to get the judges to disqualify Marcel on the first finale show....no back-up from the other guys...she looked like an idiot, they just left her hanging. And the judges kept saying "you didn't taste Marcel's food, how do you know Ilan was better?" That girl just didn't know how to keep her mouth shut...sheesh...

Marcel was on The View as an audience guest. Rosie wanted him to win, and wasn't happy that it was Ilan. They gave him a nice set of knives, and if Rosie opens a restaurant, she wants him as the chef...interesting. He showed poise many times during the show, and I can't believe how difficult it must have been to be there with all those people just being so mean.

I watched Top Design too. I think it will be more like Project Runway in format. I was sorry to see the dark haired girl leave. I thought she would have been interesting. And that little blonde guy...never touches a roller? :snooty: Oh yeah, I want to hire him, and all his people that do the work for him...NOT.:rotfl2:

I thought Ilan should have been disqualified along with Cliff when they were bullying Marcel. He was the one holding the camera and egging Cliff on. Marcel might have been annoying and acted superior, but they were immature bullies.

So, I was disappointed when Marcel didn't win. I wanted him to win it for all us annoying people who have been bullied, LOL!

I totally agree! Ilan was so mean-spirited throughout and Cliff didn't deserve to get all the blame for that incident.

I think Marcel should have won over Ilan.

I agree Ilan was instrumental in Cliff's assault on Marcel and should have been disqualified as well. The final cook off should have been between Sam and Marcel.

ITA! I thought that everyone involved should be sent home. I can't believe I left that show thinking that Marcel was robbed because I did not like him throughout most of the series, but compared to Elan's meal He had it all over him.

I liked Sam and thought that he was the strongest throughout and lost any respect for Elia. She struck me as a follower and not a leader. In the kitchen a chef needs to take control and not be drawn into squabbles.

I'm going to have to watch this next time around - everyone I work with has talked about it too. I meant to watch the Designer show but forgot. We need a reality support group on this board, don't we?:upsidedow
