If you're a visitor to the DIS boards and maybe also a DVC member you're, most likely, better versed in the planning and execution of a WDW/DVC vacation than the average individual. You may be the person that people come to with questions about the hotels, villas or parks when they decide that "Junior" is ready for that once in a lifetime trip to the World or the family is ready to look at that vacation club thing. Little do they know, there can never "be only one" visit. Most people get hooked fairly easily.

What are the most asked questions you get from a novice? If you can, include your response to their query. Reach back and try to come up with as many as you can, not necessarily 10. It shouldn't be hard. You must get them often and, if you're like me, you love to talk about Disney with anyone willing to listen. :D

I'll compile a list of the ones that make the cut and post it here.

Thanks, John

The most common problem I've seen with newbies is getting confused on what use year points come from for a stay. They look at the points they have available on the day they call for the reservation rather than the points available on the date of their stay. Plus you don't have to wait for your use year to come up to make a reservation. For example, some people think they would have to wait until February 2004 to make a reservation using February 2004 points. That is not the case. As long as the stay is on or after February 1, 2004, those points would be treated as current year, you could even borrow February 2005 and you can call now.

Do you want this only for DVC questions or for WDW in general ?
If it is general :

1. Where should we stay? Answer: Depends on how much you want to spend and whether you want to rent a car. I always give them the options in general format of price range, convenience to attractions, and how many people they can fit into a room both on and off property.
2. Should we buy a package plan that includes tickets, meals rooms etc. Answer: Not unless they have a really good deal like the FTP for room and tickets. Even then it is often best to do everything separately unless you know you will use every day of those UPH passes to the hilt.
3. When should we start planning --It's never too early to plan a WDW trip! That's half the fun. I usually suggest they get Birnbaum's book or one of the other ones out there and study it before making any decisions that can't be changed like booking through priceline etc. Talk to everyone you know who has been to WDW and find out the magical, thr good, the bad and the ugly about their trips. Most important is if they have the internet tell them to use the DIS Boards to find everything they always wanted to know but were afraid to ask.
4. How much do tickets cost? Answer - How many days do you want to go to the parks? Do you want to do water parks? etc. After you get those answers you can give a better number based on a lot of the information from the budget board with regard to where to buy and what type of pass fits the person.
5. If I don't have a car, how do I get places? Answer = The Walt Disney Transporatation system will get you anywhere you want to go within WDW while you are there. If you are the impatient type you can always get a cab to be sure you make a preferred seating etc. If you decide to go to one of the other attractions in the area or shopping you can rent a car for a day or get a town car or shuttle at additional cost.. If it is the first trip most likely they aren't going off property anyway.
