Tooth fairy question?

She leaves a dollar bill at our house - except the first tooth gets a dollar bill to spend and a silver dollar. When my DS lost his first tooth he was literally in tears that the tooth fairy was going to take his tooth. He wrote her a note begging her to please let him keep it. Also, when we went to Disney this past December, he was missing both of his front teeth. We had dinner at 1900 Park Fare and the Fairy Godmother said she was going to have a talk with the Tooth Fairy about getting those two front teeth to hurry up and come in. He thought that was pretty cool.

The Tooth Fairy started a very expensive tradition at our house in which the "treasure" increased with each tooth that was lost. You know, $1 for the 1st tooth, $2 for the 2nd, and so on ...
Well, when it got to tooth #10, it leveled off to $10 each visit no matter what tooth we were on (thank goodness, we wouldn't want the tooth fairy to have to get a second on her house, would we?).

The first teeth out were special and the tooth fairy left $5. Now the tooth fairy leaves one gold dollar and 1 euro (since we live in Italy). Once we move back to the US I think the tooth fairy is just going to leave a gold dollar unless there are special circumstances.

wow - i'm surprised at how much the tooth fairy leaves at other peoples houses - guess I'll have to write her a letter. Our tooth fairy leaves a quarter. I got a quarter when I was little, my husband, our oldest daughter and now our youngest. I won't even ask how much Santa leaves.

Shoot--this is nothing--at the private school I taught at for the last three years, the tooth fairy had been known to leave $50 per tooth--$100 bill for one child.

ONE GUESS WHY I QUIT TEACHING THERE. (actually it's because I moved, but that didn't make an interesting point.)

Our tooth fairy leaves $1 for teeth that fall out and $3-5 for teeth that were pulled out (either by me or the dentist).

DS7 decided with his last tooth, he would leave a little note.....

Dear Tooth Fairy,
Please give me $20 so I can buy a new game and you will not have to pay me for any more teeth ever.

Tooth Fairy wrote back...

Dear Gary,
Nice Try!

Ever since DD figured out "the great mystery" of the topic at hand...the tooth fairy got really creative. We never liked hearing about so & so got $5 when their tooth fell out.

We now give DD foreign coins. It started more because DH is into coins a little bit. DD is somewhat interested in them too. She loves to look at them. The "value" of them is much less important than the "coolness" of them.

That's so neat that you give foreign coins. I read in Parents magazine a few years ago about a Mom who started giving foreign coins to her kids when they lost a tooth and that's what we plan to do with DD. It helps that my mom travels a lot and I have a brother living in Europe so we have sources for our coins.

Don't try to trick the Tooth Fairy! I wadded up a piece of tissue and put it under my pillow. She left me coal!

DD age 5 lost her first tooth last night! In our house, the tooth fairy leaves $5 for the 1st tooth you lose and then $2/tooth afterwards. Sometimes it's gold $ coins, sometimes a pack of hockey cards or something like that may be put under the pillow too...depends on the time of day the tooth is lost! :wizard:

For the first tooth, she got $5. She now gets $1 everytime the tooth fairy comes. When she lost a tooth in Canada, she got a toonie ($2 coin) to make up for the exchange rate. :)

First off, I have to say I love the idea of leaving foreign coins, I wonder if it is too late for the Tooth Fairy to change her norm here at our house?

The first tooth is special, the normal $3 and a small gift. My 5 yr old just lost his forst tooth and he got a pack of YuGiOH cards for his gift. The rule here is also that if the tooth has a cavity or filling, it is worth less, usually half of the regular amount.

Our Tooth Fairy has also been known to be "super busy" that night, but never leaves anything more. Luckily we have never had a two-nighter of forgetfulness, but prttey close one tiem.

The tooth fairy came to our house for the first time in over a year just last week (DD lost bottom two last April when she was 5 - then not another until this April when she had just turned 6) ... she brought $5 Disney Dollars (Tinkerbell let her know about our upcoming trip.) She also left a couple of $1's - and some Australian coins (we read about this in Parent's Mag too!) I had done an eBay transaction from someone in Australia and asked her to send me some coins. She was very nice and it worked out great!

Just gotta chime in on this one!! For DD's first tooth the fairy left $1 gold coin and a beautiful ceramic, glittery fairy pin that she had been saving just for the occasion! Second tooth warranted a Barbie and assorted change. After that it was just assorted coinage, usually totalling more than $1. For DS's first tooth... here is the story....

It was VERY loose, but he refused to pull it or let me pull it. One night he was eating a cookie and I thought it sounded EXTREMELY crunchy.... so I asked to see his tooth. GONE!! I told him he ate it and he burst into tears. He was so upset and he refused to believe it was gone. Anyhow.... DD has never let the tooth fairy take her teeth. She always leaves a note asking the fairy to leave the tooth behind. So DD ran to her room and got one of her teeth and pretended to find it on the floor for DS. He was so excited. And I was so proud of my DD for thinking of that and for giving up one of her beloved teeth!!

Anyhow.... the fairy left DS a $1 gold coin and a few Disney Dollars that night (as it was about a month before our trip). Then he lost another tooth a few weeks later and got Disney dollars again. It still baffles him that the tooth fairy knew we were going to Disney!!!:p Anyhow, DS's third tooth is going to come out any day now...... he still won't let us touch it and I'm afraid he will eat it again!! Does the fairy leave anything for missing teeth?? Guess we'll have to wait and see!....................P

Too funny, pjlla!!! Your DD must be a real sweetheart. It always amazes me the way siblings fight like cats and dogs but still manage to come through for each other when something goes wrong.

We had a similar situation with my DS. His tooth was really loose and I insisted on helping him remove it. I was using dental floss around the tooth and gave it a good yank. The tooth went flying and guess what? We couldn't find it anywhere! We looked and looked to no avail. My DS had this horror-sticken expression on his face the whole time as he was convinced: no tooth, no money.

Well, the situation finally resolved itself when I bent down to pick something up and it fell out of -- my hair!!! We laughed over that the rest of the day.

At this point I'm sure you're all picturing this foot high, 60's era beehive but I swear, I'm not a Fem-Bot or a Stepford Wife!!!

DS lost his first tooth on the bus riding to kindergarten. The tooth was nowhere to be found on the bus and he was so upset. The teacher cut a large tooth shape from construction paper and wrote a note on it to the Tooth Fairy explaining the situation and that's what DS put under his pillow.

This is so funny that I stumble across this thread today. My youngest daughter (8) just lost her front tooth last night. Right now she is missing both front teeth!

She has gone WEEKS, no MONTHS, with these teeth loose. She has been freaking out that they are loose. She would not eat anything that required biting into. For weeks I've been cutting up everything in site!!

Finally last night she was outside with neighbor kids playing ball and my oldest daughter socked her a good one in the mouth (by mistake that is, or was it). She came in screaming because it was bleeding. As I was looking at it she turned as white as a ghost and almost passed out!!!!

Needless to say, I yanked that tooth out and instantly she was so relieved and excited.

The story concluded with me being so darn glad she got that tooth out that I gave her $10 for it
