ToonTown Complaint - who do I email??

That is the area that has Donald's Boat. This is what the Passporter says about that attraction:

" Your little ducklings will have a hoot splashing around in Unka Donald's fountains and exploring his boat. Be sure they're dressed for the occasion, 'cause you know they want to get soaked. Wheelchair accessible."

I don't know if the fountains are still running or only on seasonally.

** There is no height restriction listed.

No, I believe the original poster is referring to the playground that is next to Donald's Boat...separately fenced and roofed. And I am relatively sure there is a sign about height restriction or some other thing. It is an excellent area for some calmer imaginative play for the 5 and under set.

This is one of those common sense situations though...I do hate to see older siblings not allowed to play with younger siblings if they aren't being too boisterous. Then again I suppose my 10yo playing with my toddler is having him in more of a caregiver role than playmate.

There really is no excuse for parents allowing big kids to run rampant over and around small toddlers and preschoolers and I think a letter is justified. What might work better in the moment would be to find a CM and let them know that assistance is needed in the playground area because of children playing unsafely.

Yep, the playground area is separate from Donald's Boat. It is a very small enclosed area with one or two very tiny slides and a few little plastic play house type things. I think there is also a plastic duck and a plastic frog. That's about it.

Yep, it's separate from the boat, and yes, I am sure I remember a height sign at the entrance. I am a mom of three - 6, 4, and 3 - and there is a HUGE difference between the "trampling" my 3 year old boy can do and the trampling my 6 year old girl can do to a toddler!! My 6 year old IS too big for the area.

I am sure GoofyGal was watching her little one -- seems to me, that's how she witnessed and protected him from the tramplings of the bigger kids! It is a shame that others don't supervise their children and abide by the height restrictions in order to keep the toddlers and preschoolers safe. Good luck with your e-mail complaint. Pointing out that bigger children who don't belong in the area are there and are playing roughly, without supervision, is a very valid complaint.

The Toontown Playground is indeed restricted to children under 40", and there is a CM there to help maintain that. However, older kids do go in, usually at the request of a parent, to "help" or "find" little brothers and sisters, so there's where some of the problem stems from. I will say, though -- from experience -- that the CMs at the playground are constantly called upon to help find strollers, reunite missing kids with parents, question older kids about being in the play areas, and all of the normal "playground monitor" stuff, as well as fielding constant questions about character greetings, directions, etc. It's not an easy job! However, should this ever happen again, simply find the CM -- or any CM in the area -- and let them know your concerns. Then they can pull the offending kids right then and there, which will help the situation.

Of course, even kids under 40" are going to be rowdy in a playground. There is not, unfortunately, a "toddlers only" section where crawling children have a bigger safety parameter.

This is true. I know from experience. Last year, our young children (all under the height limit) were playing on the playground area close to Splash Mountain when 2 or 3 older, bigger kids who had no business in there came in and took over the place. I quickly found a CM who in turn quickly shooed them away. No problem. The area is designed for smaller children, and one of the responsibilities of a CM is to ensure that rules are being enforced. Just like with restrictions on rides, crossing barriers at parade time, etc. To the OP, sorry your child was hurt. Next time, find a CM and they'll take care of it.

My son had his two capped front teeth knocked up into his gums by an older child at Burger King, which he later have to have surgically extracted by an oral surgeon.

That's sad. My son has a permanent scar on his face from a mean little girl with dagger long fingernails at the McDonalds playground, and her mother did nothing when this happened.

The OP's complaint is one of my big pet peeves, not at Disney, but everywhere. Parents think the height restrictions don't apply to their child. You should have heard the parents of a big boy yelling at the security guard at the mall for saying their kids were too big for the playground. One of the kids looked like an 8th grader.

It would be nice if Disney had a CM at that playground, but don't count on it happening.

Bottom line - you can't expect anyone else to be following the rules so you better watch out for yourself.

YES, I was standing directly over my son the entire time he was in the playground. At first, we were in an empty corner where I let him crawl about and stretch his legs since he was in the stroller all morning. He noticed other toddlers playing near the playhouse and went to join them. Out of nowhere a big kid (6 or 7) comes flying over the playhouse roof and almost landed on my son's head.

This area is for children under 40". There were BIG kids in there. We went there several times during our vacation since it was a safe gated area for my son to play in. This incident happened on our last day to the park.

I was watching my son the entire time. I'm just saying there should be a castmember at the entrance to make sure only toddlers enter the playground. There are plenty of places for the older set to play.

I didn't mean to start such a debate here!

I just saw photos of this place (Toon Park) on another website and it looks so cute. We'll definitely be making a trip there in April!

Was a manager or castmember brought into the situation when it happened? Usually dealing with the situation at the time works best. However, if this didn't happen, then writing an email will let them know there are valid concerns. Allow around 6 to 8 weeks for a response.

The problem I find with this situation is this: even if the playground was intended for little children there is a difference between a one year old crawling around and a todler running and playing.

I really think it is the responsibility of the parent to scope out the situation and make a determination as to safety before you allow you baby into something like that. I think there are very few situations where you can let your baby CRAWL around in public without running the risk they may get injured.

It's not the CM's job to control people's children, especially if they are doing nothing but playing as kids do.

Just my 2cents!

It is the CM's job to enforce the rules-all of the rules, not just the ones that are deemed important. If the area was only for smaller children under a certain height, then no child over that height should be allowed in there to play. Period. There are so many other areas for older, taller children to play/ride. There are so few for smaller children to stetch their legs and play. Siblings of smaller children should not be allowed in the area just because brother or sister is allowed. The rule is under a certain height. Most parents know the height of their children, especially at Disney. Mine were measured several times for rides, so I know that they are too big for this play area now. My son played there a few years back, but I would not allow his sister to play. I always tell my children to watch out for the younger ones too. It is a matter of manners and courtesy to others. An accidental bumping is one thing, but running recklessly in a public area designed for small children is another. The OP has every right to complain about a safety issue they feel is being ignored at the park. I don't believe the OP was upset about a 2 or 3 year old accidentally bumping his child. I think the child that hurdled the play equipment and almost bashed into the OP's child was much older and not suppose to be in the area.

The point is, that even a 40" child seems massive when put up next to a child who can only crawl. I know when my child was 40" she could climb up on things, such as playground equipment and small "Fisher Price" type houses and seemed HUGE next to a baby. Not that she was allowed to climb on the houses, but it was possible. Kids normally don't mean to hurt other kids, they are just trying to have fun, and not necessarily doing anything that would be constituted as rough or unruly. It is unfortunate that a child got hurt. The castmember could have been enforcing every rule and still accidents happen. :(

OK, one more time - The op was NOT talking about kids who were under the height limit. She was talking about bigger kids who were obviously much too big and old to be in that area.

Yes, it's true that the area could have ben filled with 40 inchers and under and her little one still could have gotten hurt, but it wouldn't have been as likely - and it really doesn't matter, because that isn't the situation she was complaining about.

A 40" child (50th percentile for a 4yo) would not seem that mammoth compared to my 11 month old daughter, who is a crawler. She's 29.25" right now (which is 50th percentile for a 1 year old), so about a 10 inch difference, which is big, but not like the difference of a kid who is say 44" (50th percentile for a 6yo) or 48" (50th percentile for an 8yo), who shouldn't be in there. There's a big difference between a bunch of 3 and 4yo running around than 6 and 7yo. Now yeah, there can be a 40" 6yo, so they are allowed in there, but it's still different than an 'average' 6yo. Odds are the 40" and under kids weigh less than the taller ones, which should be considered too.

No, but when you compare a 40" child to a child on hands and knees crawling (about 12" off the ground), not standing, that is a substantial difference. :)

Anyway, the OP should write in about her concerns, I don't think anyone has denied that. It is just a shame that no one thought to address the problem at the time. :confused3
