So I have been following alot of the threads here on the budget boards; No March spending, Eat at Home, etc for saving some money. I decided to take inventory of our 2 freezers. I then went through and found that we have enough frozen meat to cover all dinners till 4/24! I am so excited to be able to not have to look at what's on sale in the meat section for the next 3 weeks!!!! Can't wait to see what our grocery bills will look like! Just wanted to share and maybe get others motivated to see what they had "on hand"

That is great news. We have a freezer full of meat and let me tell you that the grocery bill is so much lower than weeks when we need to buy meat. It also makes it easier to meal plan since you do not have to worry about a particular item being on sale.

way to go!!! It is an exciting feeling!!
Due to needing a roof repair, we are going to have to cook at home and use up what I have. I was shocked when i realized what I had, now if I can just stay motivated to cook!!

I don't have trouble figuring out what to make. I have trouble remembering to thaw things out ahead of time! :rotfl:

I have a freezer full of whole chickens and roasts but I have a tendency to reach for the chops and chicken breasts because they thaw out faster. Those whole birds take DAYS to defrost and I don't like doing it in the microwave!

That is my problem too!! I don't thaw things in the microwave, only in the fridge over time.

I just reorganized my basement freezer when we bought a 1/4cow from a local farm and I was so surprised at some of the stuff in there that I thought we'd eaten. Packages of tortellini, ground beef, veggies, pasta sauce I made. I rotated it all to the front and now I'm making weekly meal plans and pulling the meat I need from the basement freezer to the freezer upstairs and trying to cook it up!

I still buy meat on sale though. I was at Giant Eagle over the weekend and got 2.5lbs of boneless pork ribs (marked down to) $2.98, 3lbs of round steak for $3.53 and a 2.24lb roast for $3.50. I couldn't pass meat up at those prices!

Came home and chopped the round steak up for beef stew (which I made Sunday with some of the multitudes of frozen veggies I discovered in the freezer and leftover V8 and tomato juice from the fridge) and popped a package of rolls I also discovered in the freezer in the oven. It was great!

All in all with the three packages of meat I froze enough meat for 4 more meals on top of the one we ate for ~$10.
