Took a tour of SSR

I just wanted to say that I have started reading this board all the time now. We went for a tour on our trip in June/July and I really want to buy into DVC. DH and I have discussed it to death and we both agree, it's just a matter of timing. We figure we should be able to do this sometime within the next two years or so.

Here are my questions:

We went on a tour of SSR. If we go back to WDW again next year, would we be able to do another tour of the same resort? Would we have to tour a different resort?

What happened was the day we went, there was a huge rainstorm, thunder, lightning, etc. We got over to see their sample AKV rooms, but never got to see the actual SSR rooms, which we really wanted to see. Our guide gave us some fastpasses when we were done with the tour.

Thanks for any info you can help with. And for making me jealous of all of you who already are where we want to be:rotfl2:

Carrie,

SSR is getting close to selling out. If you read the boards, there are posts where some (more in the know than I!) guesstimate SSR might sell out later this year. I think they are selling points in the last remaining section. BUT, they just started selling Animal Kingdom Villas (AKV), and that is set to be a large resort, so likely lots of points there. So if you really want SSR and only SSR, thru DVC , you might only have this year to buy. Howevere, there are always the resale sites where they sell SSR resale points.

Best of luck!
Diane

As above poster says, SSR is almost sold out, however, DVC does regularly practice ROFR (Right of First Refusal) on contracts being sold and therefore, usually has inventory available at sold out resorts and I'm sure if you decided on SSR at a later date, you could either go the resale route or buy direct from DVC by telling your guide you only want SSR. Some guides don't like to sell anything but the new resort and may tell you AKV is all that's available, but, if you tell them SSR is what you want, believe me, they can get it for you.

I don't know if SSR is what we want, because we've never seen the rooms yet. :) It is where we did the tour. I don't think I care yet where I actually buy, because it won't be happening for a while and I'm sure all the resorts are nice. I know everyone has their favorites! I don't have a favorite, because the only actual room samples we saw were AKV. The looked very nice. We aren't generally picky about where we stay, view, things like that. We've actually never even stayed on site, although we have stayed in some very nice Orlando-area timeshares, courtsey of friends and family:banana:

One thing I really wanted to know is if we could tour again next year, after having done it this year?

You're not fooling me. You just want more fast passes. :cool1:

We toured the SSR models and the following year we toured the AKV models. Since you already toured, you now have a Guide. The person who toured you the first time will be the same person for the second tour. When ready just give your new Guide a call and set up the tour. :thumbsup2

If you are going back this year, they have the model rooms open between 5-7pm every day (pretty sure) that you can just go in and view at your leisure.

Basically all the rooms are set up the same way, so the AKV rooms will be almost dead on to SSR rooms but just different decor. The only difference is the sleeper chair in AKV rooms and the extra bath or half bath that the kadani village will have in the 1 bedroom.

Also if you want a 360 tour to kind of get an idea of how things are go to www.disneyvacationclub.com click on SSR and click on the 360 view.

We toured SSR in Aug 06 and then decided for our trip this past June to rent points and see if we liked staying there. First day there (Sunday) we went over and did the tour again (our previous sales rep wasn't there, so we got a new one). No problem at all doing the tour again, and yes, we did get the magic fastpasses again :goodvibes on Wednesday we went back and did the paperwork and are now proud SSR owners!

I went on the tour 2 weeks ago and saw both sets of rooms. They are basically the same setup except for decor. SS is very bright and cheery while AK is dark with the African theme and dark wood. AK will have the sleeper chair but those things are not great for adults of any substantial size.

SSR will always have lots of resales due to the shear size of the resort so don't worry about not getting into it at some point. So many people buy on impulse anyway and then have to put them back up for sale. My guide said it is very common for that to happen which is why they should not push anyone to buy right there and then!

The reason we didn't do the 'impulse' buy is that we don't want to finance it, at least not through them. I found the interest rate high. Plus my son is starting college in September and we want to get him settled so we can figure out exactly how much that is going to cost in the long run. We figure that by the time a year or two goes by we'll know exactly what his expenses are.

Also figuring into the equation is that we have a 4 yr old. So our logic was, we buy into DVC. We have lots more years with the 4yo. My son gets married and has kids someday (his plan not mine :lmao: ) He's too poor to take vacations at first, so we take his kids, too. And, I guess, him and his wife:confused3 if they really want to go.

We also are planning on buying one contract relatively soon (1-2 years) and eventually a seperate one so each kid can get one eventually.

And we've never stayed on property because each time we planned to someone has offered us their off site timeshare for nothing. Free is always good

As far as the fast passes go, we didn't even get to use half of them. We never went back to the park the day we toured and the next day was our last, so we had to leave by noon. BUT we made some family very happy :)

Actually the AKV room design is quite different than SSR. You've got the second bathroom, reconfigured kitchen, larger living room, and reconfigured master bath. But since OP saw the AKV models, that doesn't appear to be an issue.

The SSR room layout IS virtually identical to BWV, BCV and VWL.

We have have vacationed at WDW for the past 14 years and I can tell you that 10 years ago I would have never stayed on property, because of how expensive I thought it was and like you we stayed at family's timeshares, cheap hotels, etc. I can tell you now, with out a doubt, that I WOULD NEVER stay off property again. We toured at SSR and absolutely fell in love with the property. You cannot go wrong with any DVC and you will absolutely love the DVC/Disney amenities like Disney Dining Plan, Disney Transportation, and World Class Restaurants. On a side note: My wife and don't argue anymore because of getting lost in Orlando traffic, my family does not whine and complain anymore about where we eat, if a family member gets tired, sick or heat stroke they just get on Disney transportation and relax at our resort, and I don't get cramped at DVC like I do at the value resorts!

A lot of people have photos of the SSR rooms - allearsnet has lots of good pictures but a google search should bring up tons. The rooms are very similar (although a one bedroom in all the other resorts only has one bathroom - its a big bathroom, but only one - and the kitchen is turned so the counter generally faces the door - OKW has a different layout than the rest. It isn't the same as seeing in person, but it might be enough (it was for lots of us).

There is a lot to be said about staying on the property! The room layouts should not be an issue. Again we try to over think these things. If you are just curious, as we all have been, the schmatics & pics ahould give you a good idea.
