Too serious!

Maybe I'm wrong, but I always thought photobombing was intentionally posing or doing something next to or in the background of someone else's photo??

It sounds like people think merely walking behind the people being photographed while looking at a map is being considered as photobombing?

Or am I missing something?

Well, yes. Here on the DIS it's considered photobombing, because God forbid one should have to be exposed to other people on their vacation.;):rotfl2:

You should see the threads about children inadvertently ending up in a stranger's photo. You'd think WDW was being overrun with Chester the Molesters.

Well gosh, I hope no one thought I was ever trying to photobomb their pictures. I'm sure I've walked behind people getting their picture taken, along with about 100 others, at some point or another.

I wouldn't worry about it. It's a place with lots of people and to expect to have photos free of other people is unreasonable.

WDW does offer private photo shoots at resorts etc.

Sadly, photo bombing isn't reserved for PP situations. Last year we waited in line for almost an hour for BTMRR (June trip). When we went to see our ride photo we were told that someone else in our car had made a rude gesture, so the photo was deemed inappropriate. We were truly disappointed that someone could be so selfish. We moved past it, but were worried about how many other families might be missing that little bit of magic because of an inconsiderate kid.

I thought, in a situation like this, if you wanted the photo, they would give you a Fastpass for the ride immediately. For the reshoot.

I'm confused (maybe I should re-read the thread) do the people that don't think photobombing is a big deal are they photobombers?

I've never done it myself, but I've ended up with some pretty weird-looking people in the backgrounds of my pictures. Whatever. They're just people who happen to be in the background, like static. I was lucky enough to go to WDW. I have pictures of all the stuff I enjoyed seeing. I have pictures of my friends and family and myself at WDW. They're awesome and bring back beautiful memories. It would take more than some rando with a silly face in the background to spoil that for me.

I think this fad is dead. There's just a few people who aren't aware of it yet. I had more photo bombs at DW than anywhere else I've ever been and I know as a guest I was irritated by it so I can only imagine a photographer who has to deal with it day in and day out, week after week, month after month. Like if you we're actually doing something unique and original then just maybe I'd think you were funny but here you are making a rude face or a rude gesture. Isn't that cute? Aren't you original? Oh...your fingers look like rabbit ears? Never seen that one before.

If your walking behind someone taking a picture and making weird faces just what do you expect people to think you're up to?

I waited in line for a family to get done taking their picture at Disney Studios and a family walks behind them, and the "Mom" did a really ugly photo bomb face and when she walked by us, I heard kids say something to her and she replied, "I am trying to ruin or photo bomb as many pictures as I can, I think it is funny." Her own kids were embarrassed for her. The PhotoPass guy just shaked his head, he missed it, but heard her too.

I will never intentionally walk into a person's photo, but if I know I'm in the photo I will look to the camera and give it a big cheesy smile. Sorry.

I'm pretty sure MOST people here don't consider accidental shots of strangers walking by in the background to be "photobombing".

No one's said that you shouldn't expect to get people in your shots at WDW.

As for the "Chester the Molester" comment... Having a stranger's kid accidentally end up in your picture of a topiary is perfectly fine. Deliberately taking a picture of a stranger's kid, without parental permission, is creepy. You wouldn't try it at your local park, so you shouldn't do it at Disney either.

THIS is photobombing. It's deliberate, rude and ugly. If the mother had just walked by it would have been no big deal. Instead she chose to make a fool of herself, and embarrass her kids.

If I wanted some idiot stranger intentionally making a silly face in my pictures, I'd ask them to stand next to my family when I took it.

Now there's your answer! Disney should tell the photopass photographers to invite the photobombers to get into the picture!"Hey! You there! Yes, you in the red shirt. Come right over here next to this kid on the end. Thanks!"

I bet at least half of them would stop thinking they're so funny and quit doing it. (The other half would likely jump into the picture and make a face.... :rolleyes2 )

I agree w/you. I just feel that it is wrong to intentionally stop what you are doing and and make a gesture or a silly face w/the intent to ruin a photo of people whom you do not know. Personally people in the background do not bother me in the least. But, to have to spend time out of my day figuring out how to cut out the idiot who decided to stick his tongue out in the background of my family photo in front of the castle pisses me off. Nope it doesn't ruin my vacation memories at all. But, it is a real nuisance!

Well, it looks like we fundamentally disagree, because I don't believe it DOES ruin the picture. And unless you know that the photobomber believes it ruins the picture, then you can't know if ruining the picture was his intent.

We can agree to disagree :) I'm just curious about the 17 or 18 yr old young man who stuck his tongue out and waved his hands intended it to be an act of kindness? Maybe. Again it didnt ruin the photo as I have access to some fantastic photoshop it was just a waste if time to have to deal with what I feel is nonsense. IMO

Why does the intent of the photobomber matter at all?

What matters are the feelings of the people whose photo has been bombed. If you're happy being photobombed, that's fine, but the random photobomber has NO idea if he's bombing you or someone else who will be really upset by it.

The point I'm trying to make here is that it's not about the photobomber, it's about the victim.

And anyone who would photobomb a complete stranger clearly doesn't care about his victim's preferences or feelings one little bit. He figures since HE wouldn't mind, then they shouldn't mind either. They're not entitled to their own feelings on the matter - it's only his feelings that count.

If the phrase was "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you if you were them," we'd be saving each other a whole lot of grief.

Photobombers need to put themselves in other people's shoes, and restrict their antics to friends, family and teammates.

Nothing silly should ever happen at WDW.

Just save your photobombing for the people you love. It's not that hard!

I don't always photobomb...But when I do It's in Walt Disney World.... Make faces my friends..
