Too old for family vacations?!?!?

Okay - thanks for explaining. While the OP mentioned being too old, she did not attribute it to the person she was quoting in her OP. I thought it was an assumption she was making.

I just shared with a coworker today that I think WDW is even more fun now that my children are adults (almost) We're planning our next trip Sept. '08 and youngest will turn 19 while we're there. They are already so excited about the planning and will be crazy with excitement when I actually book in August. We're planning a magical gathering and they're recruiting everyone they know to go because they don't think anyone can "do Disney like Mom"! It's something wonderful that we share.

I hated being drug on vacation when I was 17. Of course it wasn't disney world. It was some far away camping trip. My older sister was married so it was just me and I had to leave my boyfriend (now my DH) behind. It was very boring.

Now 13 years later I would not mind going on vacation with my mom and dad as long and my DH and 3 sons came with us!!!

Whatever you do, do NOT, I repeat do NOT!!! assume that your teenager is old enough to be left alone, just because they are 17 or 18 and have a job. TRUST me on this one! My parents made that mistake. :rolleyes1 and, I have told my kids that it will NEVER happen with them!

I also have a 14 year old and twin girls who are 11. I am worried that one day they will not want to be with us, no matter where we are going. :rotfl2: I also teach so I think sometimes we allow our children to say they don't want to go but inside they really are still children and would have a great time. I think it depends totally on the child and the family unit. We are making a trip this next Christmas just in case we are approaching that " yuck, I don't wanna go phase" My parents always allowed me to take a friend on trips, that really helped as I got older. For sure if your kids aren't fussing..... Go and enjoy every second of it.

My older daughter is 21 and she still wants to go to Disney. Her friends ask why she keeps wanting to go back and she tells them that Disney is not just a theme park but has lots of other little things to do that mean a lot to our family. When we're at home certain things remind us of Disney and it's usually the little things that nobody else cares about, but are special to us.

I've mentioned to dd 13 about reading this thread and how some kids feel that are too old to vacation with the family. She said, "How else are they going to go on vacation???" Vacation time is very special in our family. I know there may be a time when my dks feel differently. That's why I want to make these times special.

WE STILL take big family vacations!! Me, DH, DD, my sis, her DH, and their son, as well as my Parents we all go somewhere together every year! It's great. We all also take our own private family vacations, but i think its great to teach dd that we value our parents and the time we spend with our family even after we are "all grown up".

Too old for family vacations? I'm 41 and we still do them!!! In fact...now we have the whole extended family doing them together!!! Next one is a 7 night cruise in February with 25 of us.

Maybe their family isn't as fun as yours!! Yep...that must be it. So...let them all sit home while you are having a ball!!
