Too much???

Hi all! I am a longtime lurker but first time poster. My family is finally going to Disney!! I have a budget question and I would appreciate some opinions. Our Disney trip is scheduled for July 2017. We'll be meeting a group there but travel is up to us. Since we don't feel up to a 15 hour car trip and would rather not fly, we'll be chartering a bus and splitting the cost with some other families. We have our rooms for 4 days and 4 days of tickets with hoppers included. On checkout day we will be traveling to Tampa for a beach day or whatever. Some of the families we are meeting are trying to do Disney the mega cheap way. I think it's gonna cost us a lot no matter what. My question is.....would you pay $7000 for this trip or will we regret it later? The breakdown is like $2000 room tickets, $2000 food/whatever and $3000 to put toward travel. And I know we can drive cheaper. Is $7000 too much for a family of 3 on a trip like this? Thanks!
Yes. Way too much. $4K for room/tickets/food for 3 nights/4 days for a family of 3 is way more than I would pay. And I don't care how nice the bus is, it's not worth $3K to me. However, everyone has their price points and if you feel those costs are reasonable, then go for it. I don't think that the "mega cheap" families are going to agree with you.

Would fling be cheaper? My family if 7 is going on 7 night cruise for less than that.

Yes - I think you can fly a lot cheaper...and I would...plus, I don't feel safe in those mega buses driving overnight anyway, so for me, it's also a safety factor...
I'd budget $1.2K to fly (parking at home airport and 3 tix) - should be less.
For the beach day, I'd do a 1 day rental (budget $100 - it should be less) and fly back home from the Tampa airport if that's a must do.

man, I think that's too much! my husband an I are doing a split stay 1 week at a moderate, 1 week renting vacation points at a deluxe including tickets meals and travel from the west cost it's going to cost around 4,500 all in for 14 days.
I think there could be a ton of savings. do you really think your family will spend $500 a day on food? my husband and I plan for a muffin or something for breakfast, a quick service lunch and a sit down dinner and we average around $100 a day. I can't speak to the travel portion as I haven't ever chartered a bus but that seems pretty pricey (but I know buses can be!) If you are going to spend all that money traveling down is it possible to extend your trip at all?

I think either driving down or finding a flight discount is the best bet just the 3 of you,and an onsite deal where you can stay there for more than 4 nights, which maximizes your dollars spent on tickets. I don't know where you're flying from, but 3 r/t tickets to fly is maybe $700(with a good sale) a decent rate at a value resort is maybe $100 a night,so another 700-$800 bucks or so,and get 7 day base tickets and then budget carefully for food while there. I would never ever be able to pay 7k for 3 people on a 5 day trip.... If you stayed longer at Disney, you wouldn't need hoppers so much...

Yes. $7000 is way too much. My family of 3 spends about $4000 for 10 days.

Why are you spending $1000 per person for a bus? That's insane.

That's crazy! 3k for 3 people to take a bus? You could probably get a limo for that price!

Seriously, for $2000 you can do 5 day park hopper tickets and 4 nights at a moderate. Add another $1000 for food and souveniers, that's $3K. (and you could do it for less by staying in a value and eating less -- my family of 3 spent only about $1000 for food for a 10 day trip).

I'm just totally not understanding the 3000 for a bus.

3K to charter a bus with other people?? Oh heck no. That sounds like torture even if it were free.

We spent 8K and did 10 nights at a deluxe. This included food OOP and we ate a lot, plane tickets from Philly, our room, 8 day PH's and all extra spending money. Two adults, one Disney adult and child.

No way would I spend 7K for 3 people for 4 nights. That's INSANE.

Seems heavy...
i typically budget 3.5k to 4k for 5 of us to spend 6 or 7 nights.. I don't budget travel, we fly for free.

taking out your travel, your spending 3k for 3 folks for 4 nights.. seems high to me.

Whoa. I spent less than 5k for my 8 day honeymoon at AKL including the deluxe dining plan and flights.

My family of 5 typically flies for $1500 so no way would I pay $3000 to ride in a bus.
I just recently went with my dh for 5 nights at a deluxe villa, and we spent around $5000 total for everything (including spending money).

A few years ago we took 4 for 9 days and spent less than 6K including air fare and car rental, and I feel like we spent too much. In September of this year my wife and I did 5 days at Caribbean Beach with 4 day hoppers for just under $2500, (including a day at Universal) and I don't feel like we cut any corners.

I am the director of a bank travel club so I have a bit of experience chartering motorcoaches. I am not sure where you are traveling from or how many are in your group but usually for a group of 30 we budget $150-$200 per person for a 7 day charter.
I priced a round trip from central KY to Ft Lauderdale, FL two years ago and it was around $150 per person.
