anyone have any recommendations for sun tan lotion or times that they got too much sun?

Maybe you should combine all your questions into one. I think you'd be able to follow up on the responses if you only had one thread to have to find.

That said, just use a good, high SPF sunscreen and reapply often.

thanks for the advice. just wondering if someone liked a particular brand..haventt had much success.

i tried putting them all into one and then got a not so nice email asking me not to put so many questions in one email..i think to make more people happy i will go cold turkey and stay off the boards until closer to my trip.

when was your last trip?:yo-yo:

The best suntan lotion that actually works for us (very pale, burn easily), is the coppertone sport ultra sweatproof and waterproof in the blue plastic container. (35 or 48) You can find this at Walmart, grocery store, drug store. (just don't wait to get to ron johns by the port to buy it..they don't have it)

If you get too much sun..the best thing we have found to keep yourself moisturized and out of pain is John Abate UV Repair.
We get this at tanshop.com or tanforless.com. Allow time for delivery, they are pretty quick to ship. The stuff is excellent!
White, very light lotion..not greasy. Sinks into your skin, doesn't stick to your clothes, etc.

In terms of which are best.....The Coppertone sport gel mentioned above is good. Not all icky feeling. One that works great for my pale hisband and children is the newer Coppertone product, it comes in a white bottle with a curved top...says triple protection, scatters, deflects and absorbs...can't remember what it is called, but the bottle is distinctive with an opening in the curve. This year it only seems to be available as a 50 SPF.

Sorry you have gotten conflicting messages about lots of questions in a post vs. single questions in a post. I didn't mean to make you mad....it just would be hard for me to follow that many different threads to check responses.:(

I am very fair and burn easily. I seem to do pretty good with of SPF of at least 30 (we use various brands...whatever is on sale), as long as I remember to apply it regularly. Since the bugs can be bad on the island, I get one containing DEET when I can find it.
If you get burned, there is a "miracle potion" available: aloe vera gel with lidocaine. There is a kind without the lidocaine, but it's not as good as the lido has an anesthetizing effect. The aloe vera really seems to help prevent peeling if I put it on right away.

Don't forget that you will burn (and continue to burn) even in your clothes. Treat your clothing with RIT Sunguard, and even a T-shirt will become SPF-30. You can buy it at many stores, and it is cheap (treat a whole load of laundry for a few $).

This stuff works as advertised. We wore long-sleaved T-shirts to snorkel in Cozumel, and were in the water & sun for nearly 5 hours - no burns!

Use a good sunscreen for faces and necks.

The best sunscreen producst we have found are made by a Florida company called Ocean Potion. The suncreens are oil and PABA free (doesn't sting faces) and are very inexpensive (than the name brands) and sold in stores like Walmart.

Here is alink to their website so you can read about their products:

Try out the sunscreen at home first. I have had trouble with some that if I put it on before going into the sun, it works fine. If however, I reapply while in the sun, I get huge welts on my skin and am done for the day. It is strange, dont know why it happens, but it does. Anyone else experience this?

If you feel staying off is what you want that is your choice.
The comment was in relation to seeing 5 or 6 one line questions that are generic in a morning from one poster and trying to answer or help where one post would be much easier for all concerned.
IF you were chastized before that was not nice, but I do understand my3kids post and her point.

Cheers,

Rit Sungard is good, and it stays effective in clothing for something like 15 washings, so you can do all your t-shirts at the beginning of summer and not have to repeat for the season, or all before your cruise, or whatever. If you happen to have a Michael's near you, they carry it, and you can use the 40% off one item coupon that's in the paper nearly every Sunday to get it for well under $2 :D

I also love the Ocean Potion sunscreens- I *love* the smell of them.

I had to get some 2 years ago after a rough day of a 4 day vacation and it was the cheapest (8.00)at the 7-11 near DL and I fell in love with the scent- So this year I searched for it and finally found it :)

My husband's a builder & works outside & has tried many suntan lotions. The one he likes the best - & does not burn with - is the one mentioned earlier - Copperton Sport Ultra Sweatproof/Waterproof (#48). He says that it doesn't run into his eyes & works great.

I have never been able to find the RIT Sunguard, but have always heard great things about it.

Ditto for the Coppertone Sport Sweatproof/Waterproof 48 in the blue bottle. I'm very fair skinned, and been on 2 cruises while using it and have never burned (except on parts I missed applying!!). It stays on great in the pool, but I still re-apply to my nose and face since I'm so fair. :smooth:

We brought a mix of SPF15 and SPF30. I wore 30 on my face and and body during the beginning of the week; then switched to 15 towards the end. I got a little pink on my chest on that first day at sea, but I had just a generic aloe lotion with me and nothing peeled (faded to tan pretty quickly).

We live in Florida, though, so we're never as pale as we used to be when we lived up north. The sun was very strong but it can feel otherwise when there is a nice breeze. Just be sure to apply your sunblock before you put on your bathing suit and reapply often during the day.

Saw some really, really sunburned people walking around the ship so do your best to avoid that kind of situation.

No one made me mad and i didnt want to make anyone mad..its a disney board..no one should be mad..i promise again to try limit my posts...hahaha

Besides being at Michael's, I've seen Rit Sungard in most of our grocery stores, in with all the sundries and right with the other Rit dyes (hmmm...maybe that's actually usually at the end of the laundry aisle). I recall not finding it at Walmart or Target. Anyway, check out the grocery store.

For my youngest dd, I only use the coppertone spectrum in the pink bottle--best for kids IMO.

Waterbabies spf 45 - for the entire family!!

Works even in the water parks with our minimal re-applying throughout the day.
