Yes I have waited until the last minute to do everything. DS starts the CP 8/23 & I've got so many questions - many of which will be answered then I'm sure but here are a few I have now.

I know they have been addressed on another thread - but time is running out & I really need help and there isn't enough time to seach.......

1.) How early should we be there to check in? Right @ 9 or earlier to guarantee quick processing & house requests etc.
2.) Discounts - can CPCM's get discounts on park passes for others, when & how much?
3.) We are flying - he's already got 2 suitcases full.....is this overkill?
4.) He's looking to get into Chatham - can someone fill me in on the bus transportation situation. How far away etc.

Thanks so much all............I have found a lot of information here already these are just a few questions from a Mom..............

discounts will kick in when he's an actual cast member. That will be 3 - 4 days after he arrives and completes his Traditions class.

as far as his suitcases, that will depend on their size and what he actually packed. he will wear his costume to and from work and probably casual clothes most of the other time. it will get cold towards the end of his program, but he probably doesn't need to pack a ton of cold weather clothes.

My DH drives by Vista on his way to work everyday - he called me on Monday to ask if CPs were starting because when he drove by at 7:20 there was a huge traffic backup and a "small mob" forming outside the complex.

1) Others already answered for you, but I will reiterate - you can arrive earlier, it will get you through the line faster, and will aid in housing requests. Nothing is guaranteed still though, it's all based on availability.

2) Yes, a few days after, as said, and it's a small discount. I think it's 10% (Am I allowed to say that?). Also, they have their Maingate, but that will get mailed after their first paycheck, so you wouldn't have that in time, but that gives your son 6 times to get up to 3 people into the parks.

3) No, not overkill, unless it's all clothes. I have one suitcase of clothes (actually, it's mostly black sneakers) and one box. I think I will need another box, but that is because I bought most of the things for my apartment already. I have two weeks' worth of casual clothes, since that's how long I'll be on vacation before checking in.

4) The bus picks up at Chatham. Depending on the building he's in, it could be up to a, what, 10 minute walk, I'd say? Without having arrived yet, I don't imagine it could be more than a 15 minute walk, it doesn't look that big from the aerials I've seen.

:rotfl: By the way, request me to be in your group on park orientation day for CPs arriving the 30th (would that be the 2nd?). ;) I don't think you can actually do that, haha. But it would be cool!

Haha - wish I could.

Huge career update:

I am currently on a hiatus from MK tours because...

I got a promotion on Monday and am now salaried.

They do not let "blue ids" give tours because they want the experience to be a peer to peer level (which makes total sense).

However, I'm not too bummed because I was selected for the 2011 Traditions Team, I start my training on Wednesday. So even though I can't give the MK tour, I think Traditions is a fair trade off!! :goodvibes

Thank you - I'm a Learning and Development Consultant for Entertainment.

Congratulations on the promotion! We just got back from checking DS in on Monday the 9th. What a hectic, emotional, but fun few days we had getting him settled in! He is in Patterson but they all look quite nice and we got to meet all his roommates, too. He is busy learning his script since he is in Epcot Innoventions--tonight he will be doing crowd control for Illuminations! We can't wait to go back and see him in action later this year!

I checked in on Wednesday. I was in line at 6:45 and there were probably 40 people in front of me. They let us in around 7:55 or so, I was on a bus to casting at 9.

On check-in day my son arrived a little after 7 A.M. and there were some there earlier. He knew his apartment by 9:30 and was on his way to Casting shortly after. He had done the roommate match-up ahead of time and even though his roomie wasn't there until later in the morning they were able to be together since they did the online thing before. We had plenty of time that day to move him in and go to the store to pick up things.

Oh my gosh, that's awesome news!!!!!

I totally forgive you for not doing my tour then, haha. Traditions is an awesome trade-off, and your new position sounds amazingly exciting. I'm so happy for you!

Congrats!

Is the only way people find their roommates ahead of time on facebook or message boards like this?
Or is there some WDWCP form you fill out?
When I signed up for the dorm in college, I got to fill something out saying my roommate preferences (2 people or 4), which building was my top pick, my gender, etc.
It seems like you just have to get online and then get to check-in early to get what you want. Is that right?:confused3

there isn't a form. Disney does roommates by age (under 21, over 21) and gender. there isn't anything else taken into consideration (other than someone needing a disabled apartment)

Ok, it seems like no one is actually reading the wdwcollegeprogram website. They have a not so advanced online roommate matching system called Roommate Notification where you can find people to be your roommate. Here is what the website says:

"Disney College Program participants may have the opportunity to sign up for a Roommate Notification process and may have the ability to contact one of their roommates prior to arrival."

"Disney College Program participants may have the opportunity to sign up for a Roommate Notification process and may have the ability to contact one of their roommates prior to arrival."

Lol. Then why do people make such a big deal about finding roommates on forums and what not? I thought part of the fun would be meeting new people! Like when you get to the dorm that first day of college each year and meet everyone

There are a lot of people who agree and just want to be surprised when they meet their new roommates because surprises and new opportunities are, like you said, fun. However, a lot of people are also terrified of getting a psycho for a roommate, because having a mean, rude, thief for a roommate is not fun at all. Apparently Disney's roommate notification doesn't give you many details about people other than the basics like gender and arrival date, and the scared people want more info than that.

Many do, others, like me so don't want that. I'm a non-traditional 31 year old student doing the CP. I wanted to know who I was living with for 5 months before I got here. I didn't want someone who is loud, parties a lot and stuff like that.
