Too Hot To Cruise In Summer?

You never know... We did last year's Double Dip on June 2 and it was pretty mild and overcast every day. The captain did a great job of sailing us away from the rain each day so that we didn't get rained out and that helped keep things pretty cool, as well. I was a little disappointed that we didn't have any really nice sunny days, but it actually was a good tradeoff to not have the intense 90-degree heat because I'm not a big fan of being sweaty all the time. It was definitely still warm enough for shorts and swimming!

Forgot to mention... it rained enough that the Sail Away Party had to be moved indoors (bummer). And, a couple of the CC excursions were cancelled on stop #1, but that may have been due to wind, because I don't think we had that much rain that day, and it really didn't roll in until the afternoon and we were ready to head back to the ship anyway. Our cruise was NOT a washout by any means.

Too warm/humid and too many hurricane issues to worry about for my liking in the summer. I'm cruising northern Europe this summer and the average highs in the ports are 70s-80s. That will be a welcome break for us away from the August Texas heat. My next summer target cruise will be Norway.

We have done two July cruises and will take our third this summer. The only place on the ship that ever felt too hot was the pool deck, as others have said. Definitely wear some type of shoes! There was always a nice breeze and there were plenty of shaded/cool spots to go if we got too hot in the sun. On our first cruise, Castaway Cay was very hot with little breeze, which shortened our day. On our second cruise, the weather was great until the rain rolled in mid-afternoon, which also shortened our day. Other than that, I don't remember any of the ports being so unbearable that we couldn't do the things we wanted to do. Almost every activity that we booked either involved water or air conditioning at some point. We are excited to go again this year!!

Eh its hot in NY in July and August and its hot on a ship in July and August.....guess where I would rather be!!! We have done several cruises during the summer months (many in our family are teachers) and it does not hinder us at all. You just take precautions like lots of sunscreen and limited time in the sun when possible, sandals while walking on the open decks. There is usually a breeze while the ship is moving.

Summer cruises are too hot for my taste, but right now that's the season of life we are in.
Waiting up on deck for a special Disney star performance while the ship was in port was brutal.

We just cruised in January after years of Summer Caribbean cruising. We were not ready for how not hot it was!!!! We were saying we'd prefer the summer Caribbean weather to the winter Caribbean weather. It's not as hot on the islands as it is in Orlando, at least not to me.

We did the Western over the summer and it was HOT. Like so hot we couldn't even use our balcony during the day and our feet burned on the pool deck. We are looking to go again in the summer of 2019 and aren't even considering a balcony for this cruise.

This is our problem. We took our kid out for two separate week-long Disney trips this year and got blasted by the principal. Figured since it was Kindergarten we'd be ok but she wasn't happy with us. Already taking him out for a week in Nov 2019 for Disney Xmas decoration trip so it's summer cruise or nothing.

Then my recommendation would be to cruise as soon as your school lets out. It'll be cooler than the height of summer (cause it can be brutal), less chance of hurricanes, and fewer kids (most people seem to plan vacations for mid July to the beginning of August).

Plus, I view it as why would I get away to somewhere warm when it's already warm at home?
This. We're Texans and have no desire to spend big bucks to cruise to a tropical location when it's already 100 degrees every day at home. We like to hit Castaway Cay in December, when it's warm but not hot, and we can really appreciate getting away from the chilly weather at home.

Plus, winter is the dry season in the Bahamas, while summer is the wet season. So rain can be an issue during summer sailings, too.

We did the PC in Aug/Sept ‘16 and I can tell you Panama City, the Canal, and Cartagena made the Caribbean feel downright arctic by comparison. But even in that sticky heat we never really got uncomfortable, and after all, it’s a Disney boat for heaven’s sake! It’s all good!
