We're here in Disney now. We ate in Tony's in the Magic Kingdom a few times and enjoyed. Last night, however, it was an awful experience.

First of all, I don't remember the menu being so limited...it had maybe 6 entree choices.

I started off with a green salad with a balsamic dressing. From the first bite, I almost gagged...the dressing was AWFUL. I asked my DH to taste and he agreed, saying it tasted way too sweet, sickenly sweet. The waitress took it back and then explained that someone must have made a mistake and put chocolate sauce on and apologized. Gross.

Then, the spaghetti and meatballs were like Chefboyardee. The sauce was almost paste-like with no particular flavoring at all. I think if I'm paying $19 for spaghetti, at the very least the sauce should be fresh and tasteful.

We will never eat there again.

I ate there once and found it to be a very low class restaurant as far as the food was concerned. I would not eat there for that reason. It is one of the worse places at WDW

We ate ther in January 2002 & had a great meal. As a matter of fact, we are going again in November. My husband is Italian & he liked it!

So sorry your meal was bad. Just curious, did they bring you a new salad? If so, how was the new dressing? We ate at Tony's for dinner last year before MVMCP and enjoyed it very much! I had spaghetti and meat balls, but don't remember if I got a salad. Hope they haven't changed their recipes.

Anne, they offered to bring me a new salad but I didn't want one. After chewing on lettuce covered in chocolate sauce, my stomach was not accepting any more salad..... :(

I would have had them deduct a reasonable price from my tab for the salad....sorry...but....how can anyone be so busy that they add chocolate syrup to a lettuce salad????

And the spaghetti was AWFUL! I love Italian food of any variety, & I'm not too picky either, but Chef Boyardee is almost a compliment. Mine was dry & sticky with pasty sauce. First (& probably last) time eating at Tony's, so could've been a fluke.

I'm not trying to be funny but somebody out there may have gotten balsamic milk instead of chocolate milk.

We had dinner at Tony's last summer and the "marinara" sauce with the spaghetti and meatballs was horrible  . It was worse than Chef Boyardee. I couldn't believe what we were paying for it.
Breakfast, on the other hand, has been a great experience for us at Tony's.

I posted a reply to a similar thread a few days ago but got no feedback so I'll copy my post here if that's OK---------------

We ate at Tony's at the end of July just after it had taken over from the Crystal Palace (due to refurbishment).

I had heard that it was going to be an 'all you care to eat' lunch buffet with characters. I made a P.S. and asked whether this was the case - the lady confirmed that it was - with pizza and pasta etc.

We were looking forward to it - and arrived hungry and quite tired. We had to wait about 25 mins to be seated and there was no sign of a buffet and we were presented with a menu. This was fixed price and included 3 starters, 5 mains and 2 deserts. At this point we were too hungry to want to go elsewhere so decided to go for it. However we were very disappointed - DH's and my meal were just about OK but the children didn't like any of the items they had chosen.

AFter thinking about it later in the day I contacted Tony's manager and explained my situation. He said he had had several similar phonecalls that day. Apparently the reservations people were telling everyone it was a buffet which was incorrect. But he also told me that we should have been offered multiple entree choices if we had wanted them. After some discussion he offered me a complimentary dinner at Tony's but I said that the children probably wouldn't want to go for that (they are not terribly picky eaters but this is fairly sophisticated Italian food and they were expecting pizza and pasta) I explained that and he suggested that he could make me reservations at another MK restaurant. I said I would ring back when we had thought about it. I did so later in the week but he had retracted his offer of a complimentary meal at another restaurant (whether this was a misunderstanding on my part I'm not sure - don't think so) and as the children didn't want to go back to Tony's we declined his offer. Thinking about it - it wasn't really Tony's fault - we were badly misinformed by the reservations people. Tony's manager (who was extremely helpful and tried to be accomodating) suggested we write a letter to WDW with our complaint but I'm not sure whether it would be worth it (other that getting my feelings off my chest - after all we spend well over $100 on a meal which our 5 children hardly touched).

Any other experiences or comments appreciated.

We went there in '97 and loved the menu! I had fettucine with seafood, believe it was shrimp and scallops, DH had the same I too.

So when we were making plans last year to eat before MVMCP and the other family we went with wanted to go to Tony's instead of Crystal Palace I agreed. Big mistake! Very expensive meal and nothing special. I had the linguine with clams and mussels and although the sauce was good...where's the seafood?
I had no more than 3 of each and one of my clams were closed so I couldn't eat it. DH had the prime rib and said it was good and the 4 kids hads spagetti and meatballs which they ate. We had apps which were not bad but kinda small.

And lets not even get into all the flys in the restuarant....

We will not be returning. Too many other good places to eat and spend $100 on.

dbriggs: I called dining to ask about the kid's menu and after calling Tony's they told me kids could get spaghetti, ravioli or pizza. Was this not the case? My ds is very picky and wanted to make sure they had something he would eat (pizza). If things don't improve we may just cancel this one but my dd is such an eeyore fan.

That is a shame about the salad. We had eaten a late lunch at Tony's a few years ago, and I remember the Balsamic dressing was delicious. Balsamic is my favorite dressing, and that was a good one. But I know what you mean, once something like that happens, it turns your stomach and you don't want that anymore.

I am spoiled, since we live in NY and most Italian food around here is very good. (Plus my Dad is Italian and an awesome cook). I have learned to not eat Italian away from home. Just the way that I am.

DD wants to do breakfast with Pooh, but CP won't be opened until after we get back (unless they finsih early). Since we are doing the storybook breakfast and hopefully CRT, I don't want another preplated. We'll see.

I have read the "Chef Boyardee" comment many times over the years on the Dis. I thought someone had posted that one of the chefs from FFC came to Tony's last January? I was hoping that it would make a vast improvement. Anyone know if this is true???

nisiemouse: - my daughter (11) had ravioli from the children's menu and it was a very small amount (maybe 8 pieces) - definitely not enough to fill her (and not worth the cost). There may have been children's pizza on the kid's menu - not sure - but the pizza on the adult's menu was a folded one (and horrid according to DS-13). We were not told by our server that we could have alternate (or extra) things from the menu if we so desired - so all in all - having expected a buffet (according to dining reservations) and not getting one, and then the children not liking any of the meals they got and not being offered anything else - we came away very disappointed. I'm still not sure whether it's worth writing a formal letter of complaint - it might just upset me further. It was however the only disappointing meal we had at WDW - so it might be better just to put it down to experience.

Tony's-- we have never had a meal we enjoyed there! I felt really bad because I thought I wasn't giving it a fair shake after the first time we dined there. Anyway, long story short--small portions, large prices, funky sauce, and a not so pleasant waitstaff--never again!

Well, lunch there doesn't sound like a good bet. How about doing the character breakfast? I'm glad to have preplated, as buffets do nothing for me.

My family and I have eaten the last two years (July 2001 & July 2002) at Tony's both times dinner and we LOVED it. I have a very picky child and he had spaghetti and he ate his entire meal. We had a wonderful dinner each time and have I plan to make PS there for dinner for our Christmas trip.

Sorry to hear of the other bad experiences.

Thanks dbriggs for the answer on the kid's meals. Sorry you had such a bad meal and experience at Tony's. Most of the reviews seem to be poor lately. I just wish CP would open up again. :(

Just wanted to reply to this post - we ate at Tony's Town Square for lunch last September & thought the Chicken Parmesan was great! We are looking forward to eating lunch there this December with Tigger (my favorite!) My in-laws just recently returned from WDW & gave us great reviews of this character lunch. Guess we'll have to wait & see!
