Tony's - Still bad?

We ate there in September and thought it was wonderful

I was looking at the menus on allears and ratings. It says postings should no later than 6 months old. I've noticed ratings go several years past. A lot can change during that period.

I'd eat at Olive Garden over Tony's any day. We've eaten there three times in the last several years, the latest was last January. Spaghetti they can do okay. But stay away from the Cannelloni. It was nothing like the description on the menu. I had about a full jar of Ragu pasta sauce poured over a couple of very "dente" cannelloni tubes, a cup or two of hamburger meat thrown into the sauce, very little cheese if any. Plus about a half teaspoonful of cream sauce on the top. And it wasn't hot. It's like they forgot to put it in the oven to be heated before they served it. Without any mozzarella or ricotta.

Three strikes and they are out with this family.

I've never understood the problem people have with Tony's. We went there during our 2013 trip and thought it was great! It's Americanized Italian. Honestly we thought it was very good food, nice service, nothing I could see worth complaining about.

Posted this in another thread after our meal there last year:

We were also pleasantly surprised on our last trip to WDW with our meal at Tony's. We had booked an ADR there for an early dinner before MVMCP. Based on everything I had heard about Tony's, I wasn't expecting much, but it was open before the party. Plus, we had several prior signature ADRs during the week before then, so I though that would make things even worse. However we all thought the meal and service were great! We had the calamari for an appetizer, seasonal soup (which was butternut squash), 2 chicken parmigianas, shrimp scampi and pistachio creme brulee. Was it the best Italian food ever? No, of course not. But is was good meal and great service in a very nicely theamed restaurant. I would eat there again for sure.

We have always enjoyed our meals there. We were worried because of the bad reviews, too, but always had good service and good food.

Another vote to go ahead and eat there. No, it wasn't mind altering Italian Cuisine. But, it was fine. We were all happy with what we ordered.

That same statement (in bold) can be reversed to those who have a different opinion than yours. :goodvibes

Opinions can very greatly when it comes to restaurants. Your opinion is 100% correct as to it being great. However, my opinion that it is not all that great is also 100% correct. To each their own. As for me and my house, we will avoid Tony's.

^^Totally agree with goofy4prez. Differing opinions means the restaurants are ALL full, rather than a few getting all the business, and making it difficult for anyone to get ADRs. Also, more Tiramisu for us since goofy4prez doesn't want any!!!

I think when people ask for opinions, why is as important as what... because just saying "It's bad" is not helpful since we all have different priorities. If you like americanized italian and the service is good and the food is served hot and fresh that might be "good" for one person but "bad" for someone who doesn't like americanized italian and no amount of good service or hot food will change that.

sometimes a restaurant is very hit and miss and fine sometimes, terrible others (many suffer from this at one point or another but some are worse than others) and you kind of take your chances... could be fine, could be not.

Tony's seems to have a lot of detailed reviews about why the food isn't great but when they are on, it seems like it's about olive garden quality... tasty but not authentic or particularly creative. Plenty of people enjoy it, but many do not. To me this is a risky one and I would not take the risk myself but if you love basic italian it might be worth it to you, especially if you are looking for a list minute TS at the MK.

We went in September and loved it. We are going back in a couple weeks when we go again.

We have eaten at Tony's our last 2 trips and were impressed both times. Last time we had dinner outside so had a front row seat when the parade went by which was totally unexpected. Would eat there again in a heart beat!
